How comes no one opened a thread about it? There were a few videos up on msn yesterday recorded by witnesses, pretty scary, looked worse than a hurricane with the steam rising above the skyscrapers. The pressure with which the steam was coming out was unbelievable!

My hubby passes thru that area every day....thankfully he was out of the city about 20 minutes before it blew! and he's working from home today cause transport in and around that area is so skrewy.
I think its not news cause it was just a failure of old equipment. Ho-hum, blah type of news to most folk. Sad Huh?

Yep, I guess it lacks ingredients needed to make it noteworthy. But it surely seemed as horrific as 911, especially being at the scene not knowing the cause of all the panic. I read that someone said the Hyyat was collapsing which ofcourse made people run wild.

yes merc and there are plenty of threads in the Pak forum talking about it. Considering a good number of guppies are from NY there could be a chance of some of them being there at the scene. Its not so much about how many people were killed but about the safety of those we know through GS.

i stayed home yest due to floods so i didn't even know abt it until a guppan called me and gave me the news and asked if i was ok. but otherwise no one discussed it at all today, whether at work or anywhere... i guess new yorkers just take things in stride??
as u said it's not simply abt how many killed, our immediate concern is always whether the ones we know are okay. when 911 happened and my friend called to tell me the news, my first thought was a horrified, OMG are my friends who worked in the WTC safe..
the concern is appreciated :-)

Between the flooding and the steam pipe explosion, it was a terrible day.
