I got one and oh my god, its a life saver , really awesome stuff , I tell you !
never ever mopping the traditional way, out goes the mop and the bucket and in comes the Steam mop. The level of cleaning it does is just pure awesome, really gets the dirt out of the tiles.
Those of you who are still mopping the traditional way, I seriously suggest you consider a steam mop as well
Now the question, because of baby walking without shoes around the house, I spray the area with Dettol or any other disinfectants and then steam mop it .. can I try the same with some floor polish products? spray it around and then sort of mop it for even shine across the room?
We use a steam mop too. If only the handle stayed in place, but other than that it works well. You can even add vinegar to the water that you pour in the steam compartment.
i had steam mop few years ago. but it took alot more time than normal mop. I hated cord when mopping also dirt used to build up in the corners. how do you guys handle these issues?
and which mop do u guys own?
Our entire house consists is of hardwood floor, laminate flooring and tile. The only carpet is located in a hallway closet.
Soooo… mopping the traditional way is out of the question.
We sweep almost everyday, if not me then the children do. We mop the house maybe twice/thrice a week, but generally twice.
The kitchen is mopped everyday. For heavy duty Desi cooking and frying etc, I bring out the old fashioned mop and bucket of water and give the kitchen floor a thorough cleaning. I found the steam mop did not clean the kitchen floor well after such heavy cooking, and the smell of Desi food lingers.
No problem with dirt in the corners as I feel a thorough sweeping eliminates that problem. I ‘deep clean’ the kitchen floor every month or so, where we get on knees, get a scrubber and clean out the tiled floor under the cabinets and give the grout a super cleaning etc.
My children love the steam mop, hate the traditional way to mop, so more helping hands makes life easier for us all.
X2, I have hardwood floors and I sort of was reluctant to steam mop it , but a quick mop over it didnt do any harm to it? been mopping since about 7 weeks now, every day .. do you reckon I just got away with it , or , the damage will show up slowly?
I dont think it absorbs the steam, because I am really quick and dont let the mop linger on , when doing the wood floor:hmmm:
i almost donated my shark steam mop, but my husband said no. i like the normal mop. i am still in search how to clean tile grout without scrubbing :urgh:
The flooring manufacturers generally advise against it, but a quick mop should be okay, thats why i did not say dont do it, but just be very careful about it. a quick pass over is fine. Here is where the problem is..steam gets between the boars and not just on the surface, so when you dry it it dries the surface but not the crevices and between boards etc. a minor amount will not matter, but vigorous cleaning an area will mean more steam is getting between and under floor boards.
i posted above about the issues with steam mop. I use a hardwood floor cleaner with microfibre cloth. Bona makes one. My first floor is all by mirage / boa franc. while they recommend their own cleaner I often use one made by Bona which is not quite as good but does the job.
I have also used an approach of vinegar and water mix damp towel in one hand and a drying towel in another and do small sections at a time, thats for a real deep clean and takes time. I also will open windows and run one of em big fans pointed right at the floor.
Key is that you minimize water or vapor getting in between on under floor boards…some amount is inevitable and won’t do much, but frequent accumulation can become an issue.
