Staying longer...

Suppose, your work timing is upto 6 PM, & your GM gives you a work at 6 PM, just when you are about to leave. Shall you stay longer to complete it when you know you wouldn’t be paid over-time or anything?

Re: Staying longer...

Pinky, in this tough economy I would willingly to perform my duties and will take off at another time when I need some hours for my personal work.

Re: Staying longer...

^ thats correct ... also depends what type of relationship you got at work ... If they do appreciate you for the flexibility, then its fine .. but if not, then just give it an extra 15 minutes and leave the rest for the next day and try to do it amongst the first few things ...

Re: Staying longer...

If it is expected to be completed today , then you have no choice if you do not want to create a bad impression. If today is not the deadline for completion and you can complete it tomorrow then you can leave. If it will take some hours today and most hours tomorrow to complete and deadline is tomorrow then you have to stay to complete that part today and the rest tomorrow.

Re: Staying longer...

Don't stay longer. Complete it next day. If its a good manager, s/he knows its 6PM and its time to go home. It would be a good idea to mention that "I'll get started on this first thing in the morning" so you open that channel of flexibility.

Re: Staying longer...

if you are in pakistan........and an intern....... you better stay and do the work.....

Re: Staying longer…

lolol I am forced to agree with NomiCA on this :omg:

Requires 2 questions

1- how urgent/important this is
2- what can you push off to focus on this.

Re: Staying longer...

you must stay and start this new assignment... but after just 15 to 20 minutes discuss the details with the Boss and set a schedule for completion of this job...

Re: Staying longer...

Even if it is urgent .... One should be sensible enough in setting the achievable deadlines ... That's what a manager is supposed to do !

If it is an off job - One shouldn't mind doing it - Call it a favour ! but if he/she is doing it on a regular basis - then you need to do some serious talking !
