I guess the title says it all. When my daughter was younger and we were alone, i used to dress in pjs quite a bit. Now that she is a toddler, and inlaws are staying with us, i dress in shalwar kameez at home. But i have to drop daughter off at day care, go to the grocery store etc. I like to wear nice clothes but i think wedges and dresses would be a bit too much for grocery shopping, no?
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
thats what I wonder too…since we’re alone I wear shorts/tank top all day long, i wonder if that wud have to change when I have kids ![]()
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Sara, it doesn’t have to change unless you have other people living in the house with you i.e inlaws etc. I still pretty much wear the same stuff even after kids, that’s around the house only, gone are the days wearing fancy clothes for a dinner date…or even a date ![]()

Ira,
I myself am dress it down kinda person while going grocery shopping most of the time. However I don't see anything wrong with nice dresses and wedges if that's what you feel like doing. It it gives you that nice feeling about yourself then go ahead dress up by all means. On rare occasions when I have more time and energy I try to do it as well.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
I wear shalwar kameez at home and wear lipstick too. No in laws at home but dress the same way even while the kids are at school. I try to wear nicely desinged inexpensive shalwar kameez at home. Some expensive lawn too.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Since i've had my third child and no longer go ut to work, i tend to wear joggers and a kameez. In fact i have 'invested' in lots of different coloured joggers. My family complain that i dress like a 'chav' (unpar jaahil)...
I used to dress really trendy and my shoes and handbags always matched..i really miss not being able to do that...but to be honest with you..its just too much effort!!!
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Usually wear polyester shalwar suits with long slimy dupattas that get dipped in salan. And my shirts have oil stains all over. Oh and I also smell like kewra ![]()
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Lucky tlk niksik :d but then he probably smells of ittar hehe
I make it a point to change both midget's and my clothes first thing in the morning... Then i have another change come evening right before husband comes home, cuz i dont want to greet him smelling like a desi grocery store. Husband apprexiares it. Where else am i gonna wear my jewellary man?!
I would love to wear my pj's during thw day, but midget notices these things... He will ask me why im still wearing my night suit... That i dont look nice :o
I dont know... After having midget... I want to make him feel his house is desi... That wont happen with me wearing shorts and a tee at home just cuz no one is looking... The kid is... He needs to be able to twll the diff between his gora friend's mom and his own.
Just how i feel.
But woman if u wanna dress up when going out, whats stopping u... U should... Honestly u should move to europe.... We dress ups even when we r going to get some milk from the corner store!!
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
yoga pants and tops all the way!!! they are extremely comfy and easy to move in.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Ira...when my daughter was younger, usually in PJs and a top...they were so comfy..!!!..It felt I never had any time to change and a most importantly it made BFing so much easier..!
Now mostly I would wear a shalwar qameez at home (mainly because I have a lot after I got back from Pakistan).
When going out I definitely change,no matter even if I am going to a Walmart. If you wanna dress all up even for grocery shopping, who cares...Go ahead and do it...
IMO putting a lil bit extra effort into your dressing really makes you feel good about yourself and your surroundings.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Isn’t there some sort of purdah even with mahrams when they become mature?
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
having children we are role models for them and if we dont want them to wear sleeveless or mini when they are older we should make the effort to dress and with kids it is an effort but i used to get dressed first thing clothes hair brushed n lipstick then your done for the day..and the lil ones always look cute in neat clothes and learn to differentiate from night suit and day clothes...
much easier in the evening too they know night suit means its the end of the day bed time...
always remember when going out you not only represent yourself but your hubby parents and society and any excuse to dress up, look good is cool...
who likes to mingle with chavs...
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
i used to be in pjs all the time even when i was newly married i just made effort for a month hardly , i moved to uk and then irealised no body gives a monk abt how do u dress up but now my little one is a toddler i do try my best to be in nicely designed dress long shirts and trousers etc whatever fashion is but trust me it took four years to relaize that life is too short mana nd i m really impressed with khatoone khass efort for her husband , its a big issue these days, girl when it was our mums time my mum said they ll get dress first thing in the morning then do anyhting this is the whole point being married once two ladies came into my house randomley i wa sin pjs and i was really embarrassed as they were pakistanis and nicely dressed and i was back from work quickly jumped into pjs for house work but realized we dont rally feel comfortable doing house chores in nice dresses while some women do which is good look good , and do the chores too excellent

Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
i also stay in my pjs. sometime when i am in mood i change to nice shalwar lameeze, but doing house choers in shalwar kmeeze(the nice ones) is difficult. many times i though i will change and get ready before my husband comes home, but get lazy after doing it for 2, 3 days. but really it feels nice to be all dressed up.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
skinny/flared jeans and a hoody top at home or jeans/chino's and tshirt/top
blazer or jacket when im off out with simple pumps, hair tied back and a bit of lipgloss - hate looking like a total tramp.
weekends like to dress up a bit with a nice pair of shoes and a blouse with capri's or gladiators, big bag shades and i also make an effort to do my hair on the weekends be it put it in rollers or straighten. I also put some eyeliner and lippy on in the evening.
Shalwar kameez, not yet when the weather gets a big hotter then maybe once in a while.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
Gosh I feel so bad after reading what some of you have written. I hardly ever get out of my pjs on days I don't go to work. And all I do while going out was wear an abaya but past two- three weeks I have been not wearing the abaya outside so I have to look good. I have tried getting ready for hubby but he hardly notices or cares and so I give up. I need to start doing it so I can set a good example for junior.
Re: stay at home moms-how do you dress
I'm not married yet, but usually I wear shalwar kameez at home and western clothes outside. Before, I was very "strict" on this rule, like I would never wear desi clothes outside, but now I have stopped caring haha. I think the non-caring attitude started after I got driving license
