Stats required for Afghanistan & Iraq war

I would like to know how many people have been murdered/killed so far by the American troops after they invaded the two countries.

Also, for Iraq, approximately how many people were killed/murdered by Saddam Hussain during his regime.

Re: Stats required for Afghanistan & Iraq war

How about some more precise definitions. For example, are you looking for deaths of civilians, soldiers, people killed since the conflict started, including those killed by the resistance?

In terms of Saddam, do you include those who were killed during the war with Iran, the war with Kuwait, those killed druing the Gulf War in Saudi and Isreal, or just internal foes?

There are lots of different numbers out there, so it is important to have some specificity as to what you are trying to show.

Re: Stats required for Afghanistan & Iraq war

I was discussing with my co-worker how America has ruined countries like Afghanistan and Iran by waging wars against them.

How the US went in there to remove Saddam and Osama, yet they killed so many innocent people in the process. To that he said how Saddam has killed more innocent people during his regime than the US.

I thought I'd try to get some stats to get a better picture.

Throw in the effect os US backed Sanctions and I think the yanks and Saddam are in a dead heat

Re: Stats required for Afghanistan & Iraq war

There are a lot of idfferent sites, many of which are highly politicized.

In very rough terms, Saddam killed over a million Muslim people. Human Rights Watch has documents that prove that he killed over 100k Kurds during the Anfal campaigns. The total number may be closer to 200k. Over the course of 35 years there have reportedly been over 200k political opponents who have “disappeared”. Add to that between 150k and 250k Shia and Marsh Arabs who were killed, and you could easily estimate that Saddam killed between 300k and 600k of his political opponents. Start with some basic research on “provable” genocide by Saddam:

Probably the least politicized source that has anylized “coalition” deaths is the Project for Defense Alternatives, an anti-pentagon group. Their conclusion is that the Afghan and Iraqi wars have killed approximately 18k people, of which 12k were probably “combatants”. These are the loses they attribute to US forces directly. Iraq Body Count has totaled up dead people, but it is only from sometimes dubious sources, or guesses. They do not separate out combattants, and lately all of the reported deaths are from the suicide bombers, certainly not the direct result of US troops. Iraq body count estimates total loses of between 21k to 24k. They estimate total losses during the “combat phase” of the Iraq war of about 7,350 civilian casualties. Total casualties during the Afghanistan conflict have ranged from 1200 to 4000, however it is very hard to judge “combattants” during that conflict, as men seldom wore uniforms of any type.

Before you quote any stat. look at it's methodology to see how sound it is.
