Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

All this was happening because of inept army chief, weak government and the apologists for terrorists who let this fester on for so long.

Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

MIRAMSHAH: It was one of the many non-descript buildings around, located at the dead-end of a small street inside Serai Darpakhel. “Go straight and there is the door on the left”, we were told by a guard outside the street.

But even then it was hard to find the iron door, opposite a power transformer and a heavy generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

For the unsuspecting outsiders, there was nothing unusual about this place, except that it was known to all those who lived nearby. It was a facility to indoctrinate and train suicide bombers.

Step inside and there is a courtyard with big columns, mats spread out, bedrolling piled up in one corner. Nothing unusual. Stairs lead to the upper portion painted in light cream and brown colours.

Plastered on one of the walls is a white banner inscribed with kalma and beneath it ‘the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’.

This was one of the five suicide bombing facilities, locals now say, owned and operated by the Haqqani Network in Serai Darpakhel, frequented by would- be-bombers in their teens and twenties; Afghans and Mehsuds mostly but boys from Mohmand and Orakzai too would turn up.

Rarely were the religious indoctrinators, mentors or those running the centres seen outside the iron gate that shielded the dead-end house from passersby.

No -one living in Serai Darpakhel knew who they were, except that it was a centre for suicide bombers.

Even those brought or enrolled at the centre for ‘esteshahadi’ or martyrdom were not allowed to step outside till the completion of his mandatory two-month stay inside the centre.

The undertaking or affidavit all ‘esteshahadi’ friends were required to sign was elaborate.

It had a printed colour picture of the would-be bomber, his name, assumed name, his father’s name, age, address, education, personal contact number, family contact number, family occupation, names of friends and acquaintances, father’s past and present political affiliation, the number of members in the family and their monthly income and experience, if any, in militant activities.

And the seven rules the ‘esteshahadi friend’ were required to live by were pretty stringent too. The use of cell phones were neither allowed nor considered necessary, the undertaking said. For two months, neither would the enroller be allowed to go outside nor was he allowed to go out without permission, it read.

He was also required to make no attempt to befriend anyone else except his other ‘fidayi brothers’ teachers and mentors. He was supposed to hand-over his personal belongings to the centre in-charge and ask for things he might need from him.

Other than that, things inside the centre were kept tight with a strict regimen of praying, spiritual and religious indoctrination and cooking, locals say.

Even a man, who came looking for his son, was turned away by the centre’s administrator, feigning ignorance about his whereabouts, a local resident recalls. It was only after a lot of contacts here and there, that the centre reluctantly let the boy go.

Not very far from Serai Darpakhel, drive to the main Miramshah bazaar. And there is the two-storey building of what once was the Government Girls Higher Secondary School. When militants first moved in and started bombing schools, this too was soon abandoned and later occupied and converted by militants of all hue and origin into a facility for training and distribution of dead bodies on their arrival from battlefield or of those killed in drone strikes.

The 450 to 500 girls were later shifted to continue their studies at a degree college inside the military cantonment in Miramshah. The militants, surprisingly, had no objection to that.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

Since army action has started, there have been a full stop on suicidal bombings. Hope these 'maut ke saudgar' will be cleansed asap and never revisit to Pakistan in future.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

they should make it a requirement that all wanabe Teachers should first demonstrate personally their heavenly technique of how to carry out this mission in front of the class........and the class can clean up their Teachers bits and peices!

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

Where is the funding for these centers coming from? Accusation is that it's due to Pakistan funding, but that makes no sense, because the Pakistanis have been fighting these guys for the past few years. Seems like a foreign hand.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

more than any foreign hand, Pakistanis fund these centers themselves

now before you call me stupid....think about what i said

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

You mean like this?

That would be awesome!!!

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

If the locals knew what was going on in there, why didn't they alert the authorities? Pakistani qaum needs to wake up from slumber and take some responsibility. It's easier to blame the government and the army.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

Imran Khan and its PTI, NS and his PML(N), JUI and JI are mostly responsible for this genocide, not the local population. They all trumpeted, 'ghairatmand pathans' fighting with foreigners and indulging in jehad. Shahbaz Sharif of Punjab even requested them not to target Punjab but it was o.k. to target innocent people of Sindh, Blauchistan and NWFP. They were all trumpeting peace talks until General Sharif took unilateral decision to get rid of them after attack at Karachi airport. They are all responsible for creating confusion, chaos, and killings in Sindh, Baluchistan and NWFP.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

Anyone who takes a child and turns him into a weapon by having him blow himself up, and instead of teaching him the good in Islam, the Quran, and belief and faith in God, and true Jihad which is to persevere against hardship patiently and with worship and faith, is NOT a muslim.

I agree, people in the neighborhood should have joined together and said, we don't stand for this. Political parties and ISI shouldn't be backing these creatures. This is not a muslim ideology.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

People of the area welcomed them originally because they thought they were going to do jihad on non-Muslims and will be fighting for the glory of Islam. You know, the same propaganda which most of our leading political parties espouse. Religious parties like JI, JUI believe in this BS even today.

Later people found out what evil these people were. But by that time it was too late. Fasadis already had their lives and land in their clutches. And with most Pakistanis talking about 'negotiations' with them, there was nobody for them to turn to in order to save them from that evil.

I read an article that most of them are now satisfied that army is taking action against them. They however are obviously worried about having to leave their homes.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

The most surprising and disturbing discovery at these training centers, I feel, were “certificates to guarantee a place in paradise” that the terrorist leadership gave to young kids after they completed their suicide bomber training. These kids were manipulated into believing that suicide bombing were sacred way to please the Creator and thus guaranteed entrance into paradise. No religion in the world would promote such teachings. This ongoing operation is exposing the terrorists for what they really stand for. The majority of people have rejected all form of terrorism and their overwhelmed support of the operations against terrorists comes at the right time. We are sure that soon peace will prevail in the region so displaced people will be able to return to their homes in peace.

Kiani's reluctance to act was very unfortunate.

Re: Startling facts about suicide bombers’ training den

I hope the captured terrorists are forced to see how much damage they have caused to their own people before we kill them so that they understand their destination is hell and now promised heaven.
