^i am thinking to start with banana as a first food...was going to ask if i could mix it with milk :) thanx
i read that banana sweet potatoes n avocado can be introduced as first foods instead of cereals...
so yep his first food was avocado.. he enjoyed it followed by oatmeal cereal. We used to make it of a very thin consistency and as he got the hang of it, it got thicker and thicker.
So far he had oatmeal cereal only.. I am afraid to try rice cereal just becuase it can or may cause constipation.
His favorite so far is pear, avocado and sweet potato mashed in oat meal cereal.
We tried sooji but he didnt like it.. same thing with peas.
for fruit, I give him a piece of apple, water melon, grapesor pear in this mesh feeder and he sucks on it on and off for as long as he likes.. here is the picture of mesh feeder Sassy Teething Feeder - Girl - Sassy - Toys “R” Us
I was and still am skeptical about giving him banana because it can also cause constipation.. but then probably we will try that next and see how it goes.. so far we dont infroduce any new fruit/vegetable with 4 days gap.
I am planinng to stop by the farmers market to pick up summer squash and zucchinie this weekend and then introdue that next.
my munchkin refused avocado too. she liked everything else, i was so excited to introduce her to it. one teeny tiny taste and she spat it out and threw up everything else she had had that day.
that was back around 6 months. now she’ll take bites of it, but she’s not a huge fan like she is of other fruits and veggies.
It’s not a sippy cup.. did you get a chance to see the picture? you just put the fresh fruit in the bag, snap it shut, and give it to the child.. they can chew, or suck without the risk of choking.
i bought the mesh thing too but midget hated it.. he found it useless and prefred the actual fruit in his hand... same with genie. :( soch thi hu khud hi istimaal kerlu ab :(
same with avocado... midget HATED it with a passion..
and genie doesnt seem to enjoy it either... though she will eat it. but i dont think i can give it on its own ever
so sad :(
oh and GTG: rice cereal and banana were both constipating for aariz.. so this herbalist told me that when you give banana.. give the baby or kid a bit of milk afterwards and that should solve the issue.. i have to try this soon.. cuz midget LOVES bananas..
genie is not at all constipated by rice cereal.. so every kid is diff... try giving it to him and see what happens... also.. i never give it days in a row.. i give it like.. 2ice a week.. say.. on monday and then thursday.. thats it.
and usually with rice cereal i give a stool softening fruit mashed into it.. so like pear with rice cereal.. or prunes. i wouldnt give banana with rice cereal.. thats madness imho :o
try buckwheat.. its yum. and rye porridge? thats also awesome for the stomach.
kichri bhi do.. made either with lentils or like pulao in chicken stock. (dont use the cubes pls.. make your own).
u can give him bread pcs as well now.. with butter on it. and cheerios if he can chew good. baby biscuits ? rice cakes?
^lol I am gonna go home and give million billion kisses n hugs to cuppycake.. he doesnt hate anything per se :D (yet- watch out for me taking my words back soon ;-))
Nopse no water..he is almost 8 months old and the only time he had water as when we had 95 degrees last week n I had to take him out to run an errand..I gave him water in his dippy cup but flow was too much for him so he only drank a lil..if I were in Pakistan, probably I would be giving him more water around the time.
I started with rice cereal..it took time for munckin's stomach to take it but thank God he didn't get too constipated or anything. I now give him oat cereal too and puree apples, pears and bananas and give him mixed with the cereal. He loves pears and rice cereal MA. Can't get enough of it.
Guys how do you give khichri to your little one? I try to puree it in the blender but the small bits of rice are still there and I'm not comfortable giving it to her with such a thick texture. In fact I tried it once and she wasn't able to swallow it completely.
Also I've tried avocado, oatmeal, carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas and squash. She happily eats the first couple of spoons but then refuses after 5 minutes. So basically she's only eating a tablespoon at a time. I've to distract her to finish her entire meal. Is that normal or does she not have much of an appetite?

how much are you boiling the rice and lentils? they are meant to go mush and not meant to be how we eat it at all (kharay kharay).. U boil it so much that just patting it with a spoon should make it go all mush. u dont even have to put it through a blender
if you daughter is eating find initially and then stops.. she may not want more. how old is she? dont overide her senses just cuz you want to finish the bowl.. i know its really hard wasting hard cooked food.. but its essentil to let the baby develop a sense of hunger and fullness.. so if she says no.. its a no. unless you have noticed a pattern bout her behaviour that says picky eater.. only then force feed.
my son used to eat very little but my daughter eats everytime anyone else eats.. literally! MASHALLAH... every kid has its own appetite.. we as mothers have to learn to respect that :)
i hope my baby reacts in the same way hehe :)
so i will also give avocado instead of banana
nd u guys started giving water also in the first month of solid feeding?
it depends who u ask :) here, we are told to give our babies water in a cup when they have started on solids (4 months).. you arent meant to let them drink a whole glassful but a few sips during the whole meal.. no water in bottle though.
imagine ureself having a meal with no water at all.. especially if its thick stuff like kichri.. imagine how dry your mouth would get.. so unless you are giving the baby a milk bottle immediately afterwards.. give it some water. (that's how the visiting nurse explained it to me )
and now that its summer.. my daughter has been drinkin water regularly .. she is 9 months mashallah.
