I think its ridiculous to start fasting just because the moon was sighted by the Saudies.Common sense is enough to point to the fact that those of us in North America, and the rest of the countries - should sight the moon from their own nations ,and follow so.:o

hahah! Bunch of Andhay (blind), Kaanay (one-eyed), loolay (crippled) are discussing the future of their Ammah and how to "kill Kuffar". Man! What a joke. People don't know how to walk about without a white cane and yet love to release "hot air" while chanting Ammah, Ummah, Ammah.....
ramadan in north america
Why do we have like arab's fasting a day before then pakistani's in north america? Are the pakistani's wrong or the arabs? Why can't all the muslims around the world start fasting on same day? I believe the pakistani's go by the moon sighting in north america, and the arabs follow their arab leaders in saudi arabia?
Furqan, unfortunately this is fact what you said.
Fasting after moon sighting is Prophet :saw: sunnah. In those days Muslims and Jews would see the Moon to mark the beginning of their lunar month. This has been the practice of both nations up until several centuries ago when Jews came up with their fixed calender for next few centuries based on astrological calculations. Here in North Amercia as well both Arabs and non-Arabs used to go with the Sunnah up until early 90s or late 90s when someone has this khaarish to follow Saudia in this matter. They came up with this ridiculous idea that the Eid and Ramadhan should be observed on the same day on the whole planet. Same as Chrisitans have Christmas and other nations. This is contradictory to teaching and practice of Prophet :saw: The same ppl who accused desis for their biddah;) started a Biddah that divided Muslim’s unity that too in a non-Muslim country where we need it the most. One suggestion to our Arab brothers, please also offer your PRAYERS according to Saudia. When its Isha time in NY, do not pray Isha but Fajr, as thats Fajr time in Saudia.
The four biggest Islamic organisations in North America have a central commettee that collects shahadah from all accross the continent to announce the beginning of the month. If one part is covered with clouds, it can still be seen from other. Since whole North Amercia is on region according to the path of moon, any confirmed witness from any area could be enough to declare Ramadhan.
There is no evidence from early days of Islam where a khalifa announced the Moon in Medina/Kufa/Baghdad and forced that decission to those who were in Dumascus, Cairo, Mosul, Qatar or Yemen. Having said that the whole Middle East is in one zone and its most likely that moon can be seen at the same time in all these cities. But its not neccessary, almost unlikely that the same moon can be seen in North Amercia on the same night, due to Moon’s position on this part of the Earth when it can be seen with bare eye. Moreover its possible that the same Moon can be seen in England and Scottland on the day after fro the same reason. Scientist have proved it too, check www.moonsighting.com as someone suggested.
smooth guy: thanks for the information!
Ok so, i am guessing i should follow the prophets pbuh way :)
it is unfortunate that our masjid follows the saudis blindly, but we have to follow our main jamah masjid so we have first saum (roza) tomorrow...inshallah allah will forgive our mistakes for they are sincere and not intentionally rebellious.
In our city half the people (most the Arab mosques) will follow Saudi, while the other half (mostly Paksitanis and Hyderabadis) will look for the moon.
So we will likely have two starts to Ramadans and two Eids. That obviously is'nt very good for Islamic unity.

but this website also states that it disputes the sighting saying they are not credible.
