i'm actually drinking it right now! i bought the $4.99 concentrate because i figured it would be cheaper per serving than buying it in store. It tastes JUST like the real thing. The ingredients of the concentrate are: water, black tea, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, star anise, cane sugar, honey, ginger juice, natural flavors, vanilla and citric acid. So if you try to add all these things it'll taste like the real thing. However, the 'natural flavors' seems like a coverup for some secret ingredient. so maybe it will be a good replica, but not a copy. let us know what you make. this $5 carton is cheaper, but still a ripoff!
there is a company in brooklyn which is selling it for 3 bucks, the only catch is that either you hv to pick it ur self on weekdays or you have to pay shipping charges, however the shipping in nyc is free if you order more then 50$, that's wat i do :S

Oregon Chai Tea - Delicious From Concentrate, Mix Or Bag
this stuff is really good!
just wish i could make the same recipe at home!
I hate Chai latte from Starbucks. I make much better chai at home.
I tried a recipe from online the other day and it tasted just like starbucks chai tea latte! Atleast i thought it did.
Heat up milk with brown sugar according to your taste. IN a seperate pan, boil and simmer some water and a tea bag with whole garam masala like a peppercorn, a tiny piece of cinnamon stick, ilaichi, laung etc. Let this simmer for a while. Then take out the masala and tea bag and combine with the milk. I think the key is to not let the tea and masalas simmer in milk since that would make it stronger and bitter, mroe like desi version of chai. This way it has a lighter taste.
I dont think i am ever again going to buy it from there, its so easy to make.
kewll
Ira, I will just try it out today and let you know how it turned out for me!
Re: starbucks chai latte..
Ira I tried your recipe Fri night, I've to say it was pretty darn close to the real thing! Perhaps mine wasn't as frothy as the one they serve at stars, but the taste was the real thing! I did as you said but made the following changes: I simmered the water with the tea bag minus the spices. The spices I added in the milk itself.. without that I felt that the chai latte wasn't flavored enough (or perhaps my spices were a little mild..)
Eitherways, it was a treat! Thanks for sharing!!
