Basically my niece WILL NOT STOP standing too close to the tv. She keeps standing in front of it, and I keep having to tell her to sit down and sit further back, otherwise her eyes will get affected. She’s 9 now and wears glasses for reading but she still won’t stop standing too close to the tv. Basically every time I make her sit further back, I find her standing 4 inches in front of the tv again. I’m sure it’s not cos she can’t see cos I checked with her mum.
But it’s got to the point that she’s starting to be rude to me because I’m annoying her.
How do I make her stop standing so close? Or am I being over-paranoid about it all?
my abby is 1 year n hse lovess watching tv especially baby tv when she gets excited she just jumps towards the tv n thn i switch off the tv unless she l come bck she now knows if she l go closer to tv it will be swtiched off so she keeps distance tell her mum tht if she sits closely switch off the tv n tell the baby tht she l b allowed to watch tv only if she keeps the distance
Colors do fascinate kids, so its easy to see why they want to stand close to the TV. However, the fact that its bad for their eyesight remains. Our 2 year old son tends to do the same, and what I do is that when hes totally engrossed in the pictures on the TV, i pick him up in a way that doesnt cause him to lose sight of the TV screen, and slowly bring him back to a safe distance. This way we both get our way. It may not work for all kids, but its worth a shot.
There's nothing wrong with her hearing and as far as I can tell, it's not a sight problem. It's just a bad habit she has and she likes to fidget a lot, so it's hard to make her sit down (she stands in front of it a lot!)
Use a leash on her to keep her away from the TV.
For kids who have not learned to climb yet they sell kiddy enclosures for creating their exclusive domain , use that to make sure that she stays in that boundary when she watches TV.
Are you sure she doesn't have vision problems? If her mum isn't bothered about her being so close to the TV, how do you know she's taken her for eye tests etc? I used to sit within a 1-2 meters of the TV to see it properly and it turned out it was coz I needed glasses... no one realised until I was 10.
