STAND UP comedy and Muslims

do you believe in this medium of communication and expression?
for both genders, as Muslim comedians?

does it have any educational aspect?

where there ought to be a line?

very good question.

Can we define what a comedy being a comedy in the "culture of insults" ... IF you insult someone, it becomes comdedy of the highest class. Isn't it ironic in its own?

Re: STAND UP comedy and Muslims

totally, on the point.
i've a couple of comedians's performances and of course, sadly the identity's insult is present. no one can argue that it is necessary for the humor to be enjoyed.

stand up comedy is not a part of Muslim culture.
it can be redefined to be more tongue in cheek humor, but there is a long way, before that can be achieved, absolutely minus the insult aspect.

no i dont think stand up comedy is a good medium of communicaiton for muslims..bcs humour is really ..well mainly i believe about mockery..for that u have to be able to laugh at urself and be able to admit and acknowledge ur weaknesses and not take it too seriously and i believe ppl can do that with themselves when its about thier regular evveryday mundane acts..but mocking a religion which is a frame of reference by which a ppl connect with each other and the universe.. its an awareness that recognizes a sacred order that helps indvls to deal with the unaccountable or arbitrary elements of htier life..its a whole spiritual instituion ..that too with a rich history behind it..nd its soo deeply embedded in our thinking and behaving that we cant help but feel it..and for absolutely any aspect of this divine establishment to be taunted at any level..i think will not be tolerated at all by the muslim community around the world.

Re: STAND UP comedy and Muslims

I know this will sound very bad...but i dont' find female Muslim comics to be very funny. Some of hte male comedians (like Hamzah Moin/ maniac Muslim is one example) are funny.
