Stadiums

Why aren’t state of the art stadiums built in places like Gilgit, Hunza, or Swat? I mean these places are beautiful and tours of Pakistan should include more than just Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Faislabad. Honestly, the stadium at Faislabad is so awful to see with the outfield so horribly light green; infact, the outfield at most Pakistani stadiums is NOT lush green as we see in Australia, New Zealand, and West Indies.

So I say more games be played at Peshawar, and more stadiums (and hotels to house the players) be built in Quetta, and the Nothern Areas.

Re: Stadiums

Even the outfields on Indian grounds during the ICC Trophy were green (even in smaller venues).

Pakistan will also host the ICC Champions Trophy - lets see if they can provide lush green outfields and also also the other facilities i.e. training and practice facilities.

Yes stadiums in Faislabad and Peshawar definetely need major upgrading.

Re: Stadiums

I don't think teams have complained about training and practice facilites. Your Pakistan cricket bashing borders on paranoia.

Re: Stadiums

It is simple, PCB should be spending more money on 'ghaans' instead of 'ghoRay' (officials).

The freaking organisation has Rs. 5 Billion at its disposal, and it has no clue where to spend it.

Build atleast 5 more stadiums, build hotels around (would be good extra income round the year for PCB in Northern areas specially).

Re: Stadiums

^ Exactly! PCB has all kinds of money but doesn't spend it on developing the game in the Northern areas. The last ODI in Peshawar was so crowded that people were sneaking in.

More stadiums in Northern areas is a must!!!!

Re: Stadiums

Did I mention or state anything about teams complaining about training or practice facilities? NO

West Indian Board has spent so much money organising this World and have built couple of beautiful stadiums (I know size may be small but the design and architecture etc) is lot better than anything Pakistan has got; still likes of Ponting have been complaining about lack of proper facilities.

Therefore, when ICC Trophy is hosted in Pakistan the PCB has to ensure that best possible facilities are provided to the visitng teams so that it doesnot give them the opprtunity to complain about anything.

Re: Stadiums

^ Pakistan has jointly hosted two world cups and so far no one has complained about the facilities. Just goes to show couple of beautiful stadiums don't do the trick.

Re: Stadiums

nortern areas are beautiful
But I dont think you can fill up a stadium in Swat, with 25,000 people for a cricket match, even if its a world cup final.

Further, the area essentially lacks the basic infrastructure to support such events, travel conditions, accomodation, etc etc.

Re: Stadiums

I see what you're saying but how is it that Arbab Niazi stadium in Peshawar can be overcrowded yet Swat, which almost next door, won't be able to?

I agree with the infrastructure comment but I think PCB should actively try to change this and invest more money into the area; Just imagine the scenrey in the background with the Karokoram Mountains and a lush-green out field with Pakistan and India playing a tense Test or ODI.

Re: Stadiums

PCB wanted to build a stadium in Islamabad near Margalla Hills...but the CDA demanded a huge amount of money - so that plan has gone out the window for now.

There should definately be a stadium up north - somewhere in the hills - also in Quetta....Unfortunately Balochis rarely get to see any top level cricket which is quite unfair.

I think the priority should be to get 2 stadiums up and running..the first being in Quetta so all 4 provinces at least have one international stadium and the second in Islamabad...cant believe we still cant get a stadium up and running in good ol Isloo...my home town !

Re: Stadiums

PCB does not have lush green grass in the outfield because they are preventing Lawsuits from foreign players. The green would hide the big holes (khudday) and players might get injured.
Prevention is better than cure.

Also, they don’t build stadiums in the beautiful northern areas as it will be a distraction for the players, when the beautiful locals come to see the matches…
I mean they are trying to maintain Purdah yaar…service to Islam.
:clown:

Re: Stadiums

Ehsan,

Even if there were no complaints in the past doesn’t mean or guarantee that these will not be made in the future.

The jokers at PCB should ensure that everything possible is done to provide the best possible facilities rather than relying upon the past.
