SRK to receive doctorate in arts and culture

Mumbai:

Shah Rukh Khan is joining the ranks of Amitabh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty in getting a doctorate from a British university. The actor will be felicitated at a ceremony on July 10 at the University of Bedfordshire, UK, where he will receive the doctorate in Arts and Culture.

Routed through roots

According to reports, the ceremony will be held at Hotel Courthouse, London, and Shah Rukh will receive the degree from Vice-Chancellor Les Ebdon.

The official website of the university states that the actor was nominated by Routes 2 Roots, an NGO that endeavours to bring together people, cultures and values from across southern Asia; in particular, India and Pakistan.

This isn’t the first honour bestowed upon SRK by a country. Last year, he received the Malaysian title of Datuk, which is on the lines of receiving a British knighthood.

The University of Bedfordshire has a huge population of Indian students and Shah Rukh has personally agreed to attend the event and receive the honour himself.

At the moment, the actor is shooting in the US for Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan and is expected to take a break and travel to the UK to attend the event.
