You don't think the people of Kashmir have already tried that?
Even after India trampled over the wishes of most of the population and illegally occupied the state, the people of Kashmir gave "Indian democracy" a chance. And how did India respond? By breaking every promise it ever made to the people of Kashmir...stripping away the state's autonomy, fixing every election, and denying the people their most basic democratic rights. India had over 40 years to win over the people of Kashmir, and it squandered that opportunity. Now, after all that, plus the laundry list of atrocities committed by the barbarians of the Indian army, there is absolutely no reason why India should ever be trusted again.
Such is the nature of South Asian politics. Gandhi, a man you people practically worship as a prophet of secularism, had no problem running around call for "Ram raj" and using all sorts of Hindu imagery to mobilize the Indian masses.
He, along with Yasin Malik, joined forces with Green Kashmir...an NGO dedicated to the preservation of Dal Lake, which not only works to educate locals about the necessity of making environmentally responsible choices, but also oversees all of the garbage collection and clean-up efforts in the area (without any real assistance from the apathetic Indian government at that).
Decide what you have been doing since 1947 ..... fighting the occupation or giving democracy a chance. The truth is a number of people in kashmir had interest in keeping the status in limbo and that is what they are exploiting even now. Feel sad for the situation but then ......
As for Gandhi ... he belived in non violence and whenever there was violence he had on occasions cancelled his movement for independence ... saying we are not ready for it. Princiles were very important to him .... not like these two faced leaders of today. He would perhaps be the only figure in history who having lead the fight for independence did not take any office!!!!!
Anyway as for green efforts .... you must bejoking. So you think garbage collection and cleap-up is the answer to teh problem of dal. Give me a break ........ thousands of people ...99% muslims ...... have encroached on the land in the Dal and that has lead to this enviromental disaster. What are they doing about that ..... can they preach the people to leave those areas ... no way .... they will get their back side kicked all the way ......
That remids me of another environmental issue..... some time back shatoosh was banned in Kashmir .... a lot of people started calling it an indian conspiracy ..... so much for environment.
