As for the Mirwaiz, if you actually bother reading his statements and listening to his speeches, I think you'll find he's one of the most modern, forward-thinking, secular leaders in South Asia today...and no, the irony of that statement isn't lost on me.
You are right on lack of leadership ...... root cause is that becuase there is no genuine cause .... people's sentiments are being aroused for individual gratification. Be it joining Pakistan or independence you will find all kinds of leaders wiht their own theories. But ultimately what should the people of kashmir, pakisatn, india and even afghanistan want ...... just to live a normal life with peace and dignity. Honestly if thinks were were to cool down in the region and normal life restored then everything will work out be it kashmir / afghansitan or even india - pak.
As for Mirwaiz, he is a sensible person but he also get into his religious elements, as he did in this land deal also. Look what he said .....

“Earth has been mentioned 485 times in the Holy Qur’an while there is mention of water 63 times. In the Holy Qur’an, sufficient thrust has been laid on conservation of environment. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has asked the Ummah to know about their responsibilities regarding environment,” Mirwaiz said, adding that as Muslims, “it is our responsibility to save the environment, and we won’t allow anybody to destroy our forests.”
Now having made this statement .... ask him what he did when the Dal lake was being ravaged by Kashmiri's. After all 99% of people living on unauthorised dal are Muslims .... so are they voilating Qur'an .... if so then what did he do mto stop it. After all he is also a Mirwaiz.
