‘BCCI jeopardising Lanka’s Pakistan tour’: Cricket Next](http://cricketnext.in.com/news/bcci-jeopardising-lankas-pak-tour-pak-media/37146-13.html)

**Karachi: Pakistan’s hasty home series against Sri Lanka has fallen into scheduling problems because of Indian cricket board’s interference, according to media reports here.

A report in the daily Jang claimed Thursday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has forced the Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) to make tough demands regarding the tour.

The views seem to be based on media reports originating from Sri Lanka that India is not happy with Sri Lanka’s cricket tour of Pakistan.**

Arjuna Ranatunga, the head of the SLC interim committee which was later dismissed by the government, accepted Pakistan’s invitation to fill in for India. But after the government cleared the tour, Indian authorities expressed their displeasure over the next month’s series, the report said.

Ranatunga had agreed on a six-week tour, including three Tests and five one-dayers. Under that programme, Sri Lanka was supposed to arrive in Pakistan on Jan 20 and stay here till Feb 25.

But the current SLC officials want a reduced tour with just two Tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 game. They want to send their team to Pakistan in mid-Feb. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now in a fix as the schedule will clash with Pakistan’s one-day series in Bangladesh which is slated to begin on March 3.

**The reports claim BCCI has been working in the background to ensure that Pakistan does not get good matches after India cancelled its tour of Pakistan because of Mumbai terror attacks.

BCCI enjoys considerable influence over regional cricket boards like SLC and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and is using it to derail PCB plans to host a full series against Sri Lanka in a bid to compensate for the cancellation of their much-awaited home games against India, it said.
**
Some television channels have also aired reports that BCCI is pulling strings to jeopardise Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan.

Both PCB and SLC are still working on the tour itinerary and are expected to finalise it within the next couple of days.

India, Sri Lanka in talks over tour

India are planning a series against Sri Lanka to compensate for the aborted tour of Pakistan. Officials of both national boards have confirmed they are in talks over the tour, which will take place sometime over the next couple of months - **most likely between Sri Lanka’s current tour of Bangladesh and their trip to Pakistan in the middle of February. **

So apparently Srilankan wanted a revised timing for the Pakistan tour for February instead of January so that the Lankan players could get some rest after their BD tour. However now this latest news is contradicting that.

GEO just reporting that Srilankan team will now tour Pakistan in 2 stages. During the first stage, Srilanka will play 5 ODI's and 1 T20. The Srilankan team will then tour India. After touring India, Srilankan team will come back again to Pakistan to commence stage 2 which will comprise of 3 Test Matches.

Re: Srilanka Tour of Pakistan - News/Updates

So what is going to happen of Pakistan's FTP in February/March and the series with Bangladesh? Pakistan has no say on their home soil?

The new report of Indian tour of Sri Lanka definitely contradicts with players wanting to take rest. Maybe this news report broke out today after being kept in the dark. Looks like BCCI's pressure to shorten Sri Lankan tour was really the 3-ODI series that they wanted to play and the reason of 'player's rest' was just nothing.

PCB has gagged all players and officials from speaking to the media in rise of controversy statements similar to which Qadir issued on Malik’s captaincy (CricInfo).

GEO reporting that Srilankan Cricket Board has sent the proposed tour itinerary for PCB's approval. According the itinerary sent, Lankans will arrive on Jan. 17th for a 3 ODI tour. After completing a tour of India, the Lankans will return to Pakistan on Feb. 15 to play 3 Test matches.

Pakistan confirms split series against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will split their tour to Pakistan over two legs in January and February, playing in total, three ODIs and two Tests. A gap in between of over two weeks thus paves the way for Sri Lanka to host a potential one-day series against India.

**After much negotiation and tweaking of provisional itineraries, Sri Lanka will now arrive in Pakistan on January 18 to play three day-night ODIs, leave and then come back on February 14th to play two Tests. **

"The ODIs will be played on January 21, 24 and 27 at Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad respectively," Salim Altaf, chief operating officer PCB, told Cricinfo.

Re: Srilanka Tour of Pakistan - News/Updates

Well, so much so for the "rest" that they wanted from January 20th. I am wondering if India would not have approached Sri Lanka for the series, would the players have opted to "rest" in January or complete the whole tour of Pakistan in one leg?

and I am wondering what will happen if NZ accommodates extra test match that India has requested and then India rules out the series with SL? I am sure they will get plenty of rest then :)

I highly doubt that adding an extra test match with NZ will have any effect on India- Srilanka series. Read this from cricinfo

[quote]
The New Zealand series against India starts on March 6 with a Twenty20, followed by five ODIs and two Tests, the second of which ends on April 7. With the Indian Premier League scheduled to start on April 10, the only way to fit in an extra Test is to begin the tour earlier.

An extra test match means that India have to start the tour around 20th Feb or even 2-3 days later. India will be finishing their Srilankan tour sometime during the second week of Feb. So I think there should be plenty of time for Indian board to accomodate an extra test while playing with Srilanka as well. Any change in their NZ tour should have no impact on their Srilankan tour.

I think SLA are trying to please too many people at the same time. I don't blame them though. If as per some reports the Indian board has helped them financially in the past then they are almost obliged to listen to them. Afterall you should not bite the hand that feeds you. I just hope that the Lankans don't have a change of heart (koi unn par jaadoo tona na kar dey Indian leg k doraan!!) while touring India and let us down later.

Sri Lanka announce squad for Pakistan

Tillakaratne Dilshan’s Player-of-the-Series performance in the Tests against Bangladesh earned him a recall to the one-day squad for the three-match series against Pakistan later this month. Dammika Prasad, the fast bowler who is part of the squad for the tri-nation series in Bangladesh which starts on Saturday, makes way for Dilshan in Pakistan.

Dilshan was dropped for the tri-nation series because of poor form but he returned to contention after scoring 366 runs, including two centuries in the second Test, and taking four wickets in Sri Lanka’s 2-0 series win.

Apart from Prasad, all other members of the tri-nation squad will make the trip to Pakistan. Sri Lanka agreed to play three ODIs between January 21 and January 27 after India pulled out of their tour to Pakistan. Sri Lanka will return to the country on February 14 to play a two-Test series from February 22 to March 7.

Sri Lanka ODI squad:

Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Kapugedera, Jehan Mubarak, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thilina Kandamby, Muthiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Farveez Maharoof, Dilhara Fernando, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Angelo Mathews.
