Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chance)

Glad to see you back, and thank you for the correction. Second misjudgment from my side in this thread. I am keeping the count. :)

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chance)

I'm really glad that no "huge" changes in the Pak team. I hope the new spinners Tahir Khan and Abdur Rahman make the best of it but they should not be sidelined if they don't do the best. 2 or 3 games don't determine a player's calibre.

Also, I just saw SL team and boy, they look strong as well and they are on their turf so it's not gonna be easy for Pak but let's hope for the best for Inzi and Inzi's "Boyzzz."

Acrobi Jee, yahan per aajaayein.

As I read the above, I remember Aejaz bhai’s most recent thread regarding Wicket-Keeper batsman, and the level of expentancy they are required to achieve in the recent aspect of the modern-day cricket game. The likes of Gilchrist, Sangakkara and now even Akmal have batted in the opening slot at some point in their professional careers, and have scored brilliantly as such, but we should also consider the heavy amount of mental and physical toll this effect generates on the mind of wicket-keepers, as they not only are the core backbone of any team with their excellence in batting line-up coupled with the possibility of being one of the top run scorers of their teams, their desired performance and maintenance to stand in the field all day long behind wickets, cheering each bowl and fielders, alike, is also another considerable element to ponder upon.

Seems like one-day cricket is unveiling in a singular batsman’s path, with bowlers and keepers paying the major amount of sacrifices.

Can we press for Taufeeq Umar and Wajahat as the opening pair of next year’s World Cup? Both of them shambles the pair of Afridi and Razzaq on any given day.

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chance)

Finding a decent opening pair is our biggest problem. For me the tour of England later on this year will be make or break for Salman. His habit of fishing outside the off stump will cost him dearly in England if he doesn't learn to leave such deliveries alone or play them in a proper manner.

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chan

I wont mind giving Taufeeq Umer a proper chance, I dont know about now but he was the best of the lot (lefties) when it came to technique few years back but he wasnt given a good decent chance.

but now well its a different scenario for the team, having 3 all-rounders Malik, Afridi and Razzaq creates a void if you are to choose a specialist.

Speaking of heavy workload (physically and mentally) for the W-Keepers, well the cheerleading role in cricket is kinda taken for granted that its a Keepers job to cheer up the whole team I recall that Ntini use to do this few years back even from fine leg and Boucher isnt much of a cheerleading kind. but as a W-keeper he is doing a good job.

I think K. Akmal can be a solution for the opening slot (ODI's), and I think he is tough mentally to take that challenge, and on the other hand since the selectors and coach are not ready to give any other guy a chance so far, well things will sink in once the england tour is over.

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chance)

I think this fishing habit is not only with Butt also with other playes as well such as Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, Salman Butt, few others…wonder if Bob ever told them not to fish?

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chan

Anyone who claims that

(a) Taufeeq had the best technique among our openers

or

(b) wasn’t given a proper chance

should be banned from participating in this forum.

What is it, do you just like his name?

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chan

Yes he had the proper technique :snooty: but he wasn’t nourish like Butt and kept in the A team like I. Farhat and given time to groom.

Re: Sri Lankan tour hits its first wave (Mohammad Irshad standing in a very good chan

I agree. The guy probably had the worst technique ever. I still remember how he was Balaji’s bunny. He had no idea how to play him…
