Not only was this one of the most interesting reads to come out asian cricket but one of the most refreshing. With the status of asian cricket clouded by the politics of cricketing gaints India and Pakistan it always feels like the real issue is somehow always lost.
Cricket is the reason why I like to watch the game. It may sound inane but I think too many players play the business or politics of cricket rather than “game” it self these days. The pure hunger for winning and to do better is the essence of a good cricketer if not a person. That is what this article represents to me; the simple fact that pushing the envolope is not about winning every game but to become better with every tommorow.
Attitude is the core make up of every cricketer and hopefully the other asian teams if not world cricket takes a leaf out of the Sri Lankan book.
Thank you for providing with such a unique and one-of-a-kind article. Delicious read it was, starting from the beginning. Core concepts have been redefined, polished and extended to far greater heights in Sri Lankan dressing room. They seem to be a complete unit with each passing day.
Finally have something positive to read after a really long time. The entire grain of energy was wasted down the drain in these past few weeks, or months rather.
^ excellent article from Sangakara but here is the question:
1. I like others have said on this forum that we need asports Psychologist for Pakistan. When is the board looking into that or do we already have one?
Even after all of this hard work SL lost to Pakistan who were supposed to be a demorilized outfit from all of the scandals around them..but Pak jumped back..Was it a show that the Pak team now is a mentally stronger outfit and nothing can keep them down all together or was it just a fluke..?
A guy named "sandy" ? I thought Sandy was short for Sandra.. a female name ?:D
Yes you are right about a sports psychologist as lot of sports team are using them. However, the question is weather the Pakistan's superstars really listen to what the Psychologist had to say?
Whats their secret...they are the smallest nation by far in the subcontinent yet are producing and have produced some of the worlds top players...
They have for me the best wicketkepper in the world in Sangakkara...their reserve keeper Jayawardene is better than Dhoni and Akmal aswell...
They are the only subcontinent team that can field...Dilshan is a top top fielder...
They have some good youngsters coming through and heres why the youngsters are doing well they have experienced hands to work with...Tharanga is a class opener and hes become good cos hes had the pleasure of playing with Jayasuriya...we just have two inexperienced openers...if we didnt just get rid of Saeed Anwar after the last world cup who knows Farhat or Salman Butt might actually be decent now...In terms of their new batters...Kapugedera and Silva are looking very impressive...
They actuallly have a world class spinner and Vaas and Malinga is a very good opening pair still however not as good as ours injury free...
The main thing is the elders arent ego driven...they are genuinely a team and having met them quite a nice bunch aswell...really down to earth lot so no politics and easy management...They enjoy the game when they play...
And Jayawardene is a very good captain...hes respected and hes diplomatic...he doesnt impose himself too much...everything that we are lacking...
In case if anybody was wondering why Sri Lanka is the team they are now. I mean its no coincidence they are in super 8s (and have a real chance of winning the world cup) and India and Pakistan quite deservingly are not.
