I remember Pak Govt promised foolproof VVIP(or president ) level security to Lankan cricketers when they agreed to tour. Also it seems SL team management requested additional security couple of days before due to the outrage in Pak after Sharifs disqualification.
Did SL team get the level of the security promised and requested?
Moreover, I think the presence of mind and courage of the bus driver saved the SL team rather than the security that was in place. Please note that I'm not belittling the sacrifices of security personnels.
No, thats because the idiotic Govt of Pakistan was more interested in how to dispell and ruin the opposition, and how to carry out effective horse-trading to win the Punjab Govt.

A sophisticated ambush by “trained terrorists” against the Sri Lankan cricket team here Tuesday bore the hallmarks of the tactics used in the Mumbai attacks, Inspector-General Police Punjab Khaled Farooq said.
“The attack resembles the Mumbai attacks,” Khaled Farooq told reporters here on Tuesday.
“That was also a commando action and this is also a commando operation in which our five officers embraced martyrdom,” Farooq said when asked how the attack resembled Mumbai, where gunmen killed 165 people last November.
“They were trained terrorists and they attacked in a planned manner… The attackers looked like Pashtuns,” said Farooq, hinting that those behind the assault may have links to Pakistan’s northwest tribal areas.

Its really despicable that the shootout lasted 30 minutes and the team security didn't get additional support from police in locality and that all the frikkin terrorists fled away easily, really shameful.

IG Punjab was newly appointed as well as the chief secretary. This is what Governor rule has to do with this incident. The police and bureaucracy was busy executing horse trading!

Change of leadership cannot account for inadequate arrangments for the visiting team !!!!!!!!!! To being with the players should have been transported in a bullet proof vehicle, the route that thay were going to take should have been sanitized before they travel on it. I am no security expert but even i can think of at least these two things to do ..... just because Imran Khan said there will be no attack on cricketers does not mean the administration can be lax in their arrangments
It was quick thinking and bravery of the bus driver that saved Pakistan from a very embarassing situation. From the reports it seems that the gunmen wanted to hijack the cricketers and perhaps hold them as hostages !!!!
Once a commitment is made by a country to some one visiting in goodwill, that commitment needs to be translated into actions .... which seems did not happen here !!!!

^ Pakistanis were just gloating over the fact that SL decided to tour Pak when no other country did, and touting it as a sign of their country being safe.
However the fact is that SL cricket board had its own compulsions and Ranatunga had a point to prove to BCCI. They ended up taking this foohardy step at great risk to their cricket team.
They can keep blaming India/RAW all they want but this incident will underscore how unsafe Pakistan is for foreigners, and serve as a warning to others who want to visit.

Yeah, better than 'some' other polciyaz. Atleast these guys did their jobs properly and died like heroes and stopped the targetters from achieving what ttey wanted, rather than being taken hostages for days!
