Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
While I deeply respect your prayer to Ganpati, I'd refrain from going down the path you're going. I tell my fellow muslims to do the same when I get the chance, when they talk about memorizing the Quran (having the side-effect of "sharpening memory") and the 5-time daily prayer (having the side-effect of "being the best daily exercise")
Can I give you an argument about this?
Why do you tell them that? Isn't it a proven fact that memorizing anything automatically enhances the ability to memorize and that in turns actually expands ability to remember as well as amount of memory! Whether what you are memorizing is quran or anything else!
Secondly, assuming the five times prayers you are talking about involves repeatedly and methodically prostrating / pivoting by ones knees, why wouldn't act as a physical exercise also?
Ofcourse taking it to the extreme and expecting all ailments to be cured by just that, if that is what you are talking about, is not very useful!
Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
Just watch the video linked fully - they show brain scans that clearly prove the beneficial effects.
You don't need blind tests when you can just scan and see for yourself!
Scans don't mean anything. ANy activity you do will increase neuronal activity in some part of brain, proof needs an experiment.
But then as Hareem pointed out, most poor school kids are made to do this superbrain yoga by their teachers and majority never go beyond high school.

Well that, and the trump card played by religious apologists: "See! This prayer achieves so and so benefit, hence it is Divinely ordained"... I must apologize, but there may be several alternatives to such techniqes.
I am not down-playing the prayer itself; rather, just putting it in perspective. A prayer is meant to honour the Creater in one way or another, and that is the end of it. Any side-effects are merely coincidences and have alternatives.
Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
Just curious.....Why is an exercise termed "Prayer"?
that is not a exercise, but there is a story behind this
its there in one movie, vinayaka mahatyam
Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
Good question. In fact I am finding more and more physical and mental exercises have been intertwined as and into Hindu prayer rituals. For example, I will cite Pranayamam (breath control), SuryaNamaskaram (eye sight and focus) as some of the more commonly known and practiced ones.
Even people who do not understand the meaning of certain mantras follow these somewhat blindly. If they do it right the benefits are there.
The most revered of all mantras, the Gayathri Mahamantra also comes with a certain way it is to be uttered which is supposed work many benefits - I am just learning some of this
hmmm. cool.
thanks for sharing. :)

Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
Funny as it appears for the onlooker ... I ask what came first ...
The ritual prayer that then became an exercise ... or
The exercise that then became the ritual prayer for Ganesh
Is there evidence of the claim either way?
It is important because even though I disagree with hypnotix-2000 with respect to Islamic prayer - because we have evidence it was performed by Muhammad (SAW) in the manner we do it, the issue is I believe there is symbolism in the actions we do e.g. Sajud (prostration) ... for the earlobes? well it is not done for seeking brain power, but could it be someone is asking for forgiveness ... People in the subcontinent hold their lobes when they undertake penance.
I also have counter-claim that supports the findings by the doctors but not necessarily due to the same reasons that they suggest. It seems the examples of children they cite are attention deficient ... holding the ears has a relaxing effect and in addition to that ... the constant up and down motion vents off any extra energy because children or people with too much energy find it hard to concentrate. In addition to that they cross their arms over their chest restraining their flow of oxygen to the lungs ... that will cause hypoventilation, causing an enhanced calming effect ... Inevitably it will cause the person to get tired quicker and relaxed at the same time when they stop to catch their breath they have reached a plateaux that enables their minds to work with greater ATTENTION. I don't think it makes you more intelligent rather it makes you ready to receive and respond to mental stimuli better, which give the same results of increased attainment in tests, etc.
Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
I just watched the video....Believe me this is not the first time I saw this super brain yoga, I've seen others doing it before for many times in Pakistan in my school.
lol...we have super brains (just ask Divine light)
all we need to be is "super power" :roman
Re: Sri Ganesha prayer custom leads to super brain!
i am sure no religion or any religious activity (rationale speaking) wants you to face extremism.
prayers and exercises are there for one to feel “Normal” rather than brainier “Abnormal”
