Squash in Pakistan

I was wondering what makes pakistan so good in Squash.

Is there any other champinos there After Jahnagir and Jansher??

Unka Jo Kaam hai Ahl-e-Siyasat Jaane,

After Khans, Zark Jahan appears to be a good player but he really needs to concentrate on timing.

great !! what is his international ranking?

Jansher and Jehangir, another example of the raw talent Pakistan has.

There are some good prospects for squash that are rising up in pak, but Jansher and Jehangir can never be replaced.

The golden era of squash for Pakistan was the 70's when we had at least 6 players in the top ten for at least five to six years. Players like Qamar Zaman, Mohibullah Khan, Gogi Allauddin and Torsam Khan to name a few. Then in 1980's the number of squash players reduced but we dominated the 80' and 90's through first Jehangir Kahn and then Jansher Khan.

Jehangir is a legend and at one time in his career on the world squash circuit not only did he not lose a match for five years, he did not even lose a game. Now that is some acheivement. I remember listening to his interview after he won one of the world championships and the interviewer asked him what was his daily routine. He said the first thing he does in the morning is run 9 miles and then come back and swim for a hour and then have breakfast, later on he plays squash for an hour have lunch and then in the evening again practice squash for two hours. The flabergasted interviewer asked him "what do you do in your spare time". Jehangir replied with a smile " I win tournamnets". There has not been a sportsman like him in the history of Pakistan or for that matter the sub continent who acheived so much in his field.

The tragedy though is that while Pakistan was focused and bewitched by Jehangir and Jansher during the 1980's and 1990's the overall standard of the game declined in Pakistan with the result that we do not have any players in the top ten today. That is a shame. Today the facilities available are far superior to that which were available in the 1970's, when we dominated the world squash.

Thanks for correction, Spock. Sorry, I don’t know any Squash sites. You can find on yahoo

Thanks Ehsaan for telling us about the golden 70,80 and 90s...

My question was ."What is it which produced so many great squash players in Pak and Why not players are coming up now?"

AQ, Pakistan just clinched the Asian squash team title, so maybe and just maybe the corner might be turning after a long decline. Paksitan beat hosts Malaysia 3-0 to win the title. Pakistan clinched the title when Mansoor Zaman currently ranked 33 in the world beat Ong Beng Hee curently ranked number 10 in the world.

Hope these lads can keep up the good work
