Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year to clear out all the clutter and start new. We’re going to move soon so it’s especially important for us to get rid of a lot of things. I’ve been going through our stuff lately and find that I’m not as attached to stuff as I thought I was. I personally don’t like to be a pack rat and accumulate lots of things. About two or three times a year I go through everything and fill up bags with stuff to give away. They could be books, magazines, cds, toys, clothes, shoes. Do you find that you hold on to things for sentimental reasons? Do you store things away for later use but find that you just never use them anyways? Or do you like to simplify?

Re: Spring Cleaning

well, while reading your post i felt like its me who has written this....except for moving part:)

well, i used to be a packrat for my cards, letters n alikes .....when i was a student

but now i can't afford to be one....i just don't like that much clutter!!

i'm done with spring cleaning ....!!!

Re: Spring Cleaning

I hoard things but do it in quite an organised way so it doesn't seem like clutter. I don't mind holding onto things, whatever the reason, but it only annoys me when they're not put away neatly.

Re: Spring Cleaning

I save things that are important to me and hold memories. But after some time, there's hardly ever any space for them so have to throw them away.

My sister did some spring cleaning yesterday. She had had the dining room table breaking under the weight of books, glasses, papers, god knows what else and more than half of that got thrown away. The place looks so clean now!

Re: Spring Cleaning

I do throw away clothes, shoes and wearable things...but i have never threw away things of sentimental value to me..including photographs, letters, cards, my plush toys, books etc and yes i do take time to glance them or read them when i have time.

Re: Spring Cleaning

I came across a pile of old letters from friends and relatives (don't write or receive
letters anymore). I almost threw em out but then decided to keep em for the old age.:)

Other stuff clothes, shoes, toys etc that is not being used at the moment gets thrown out.

Re: Spring Cleaning

Things like letters i usually always keep. But Hallmark/Birthday cards i don't keep unless it's from someone very special and has a special note inside. I'm currently selling items through ebay and craigslist. So far I've sold many books and cds and highchair, jogging stroller and a rocker were picked up yesterday. I feel bad giving away these items my daughter grew up with, but it's just time to move on. She never uses her highchair anymore but it was emotional for her to see it go. However 10min. later she completely forgot about it.

Re: Spring Cleaning

Saima
didn't u wanna keep the high chair for the baby to come?
Or are u getting a new one?

My daughters high chair and swing are sitting in the garage. Never thought of
selling it on ebay. That would have been a good idea.:)

Re: Spring Cleaning

my sister is a pack rat, I like to remove all the junk annually. Works out well. I make little baggies of all the stuff I dont want - she goes thru them - whatever she wants she keeps, and then the rest of the stuff is shown to my cousins (those little kids love kachra), and then the remainder is trashed.

:D

Re: Spring Cleaning

We’re moving in 2 months so I’m trying to just get rid of everything and we’ll start over.
