Spring Cleaning Club

even plastic-ware i wouldnt really recommend … unless you are super clumsy with handling glass.
plastic is more easy with holding germs and grease. it gets easily scratched, which is again … good for germs. glass bottles you can easily wipe clean from the outside if they get dirty or greasy … with plastic, it’s not so easy … plus they also get stained … especially with masalas like turmeric.

and although i wouldnt really call it spring clean, but it’s something i’d had on my mind since quite some time … and i finally got over with it today :aisha:
cleaned my bedroom head to toe
cleaned my cupborad … well … i still have to get rid of clothes i dont wear anymore.
threw stupid boxes away … (all that mess under the bed!!!)
made storage more smart with all my tiny space.
cleaned the living room entirely.
jharo/taaki … all through the place …
kitchen was already done before this thread opened.
so me is very very happy with a clean house :bobo:

things left:

  1. get rid of unwanted clothes
  2. clean my drawers
  3. get a new cabinet

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Just checking up on you guys to see ki dil laga ki kaam ker re ho aaph log :lifey:

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Yes Miss CB, dil thora magar jaan ziada lag rahi hai

Yay!** Farrah** …good to know .. report back when you are done with the rest..

tigerlily, the best thing to do with paper work is to sort out regularly and label appropriately. I have separate files for each kind of paper that we receive regularly and I try to put every paper in it’s place just when it arrives, if I start to get lazy it just builds up. Also from time to time I sort out papers that I don’t need anymore and discard them.

Here are some tips that you might find useful (tip # 36 to 42)

Organizing

For the magazines, can you get a magazine holder, something like this:

Amazon.com: Cappuccino Finish Wood Magazine Rack: Home & Garden

There are so many designs available and many ideas on craft sites if you want to make them at home, some pretty cheap ones like making it out of a cereal box.

Also can you tell about the steam cleaner you mentioned, it sounds handy.. can you post any pics?

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Ok part of my cleaning process includes organizing piles and piles of files and papers. I have no clue how to organize them. I have so many different folders and would really like something big enough to hold every single document together. Something portable expanding thing would work best so its easy for storage and carrying. I've been looking for weeks now and I just can't find anything. I do have a LOT of papers to organize. Any suggestion?

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Ok my updates: I am done with the bedrooms. It’s getting warmer here so sorted out all seasonal clothes. Aired the ones that I took out from suitcases and stored the winter clothing.
Cleaned and organized closets and drawers. Got mad at all the space husband’s suits occupy, I have small closets and those damned things take most of my space.

Took my anger out on the mattress, I think I went overboard with the pitai to free it from dust  It’s a good practice to change your mattress’s sides , I did it all by myself..glad my back survived it phew I like different sheets for summers/winter, both color and texture wise, so just stored the winter ones and took out the nice summery ones..the colors feel so fresh :phati:

**CorruptAngel **your post made me spend monies  I got some stuff for the living room. Currently it’s all neutral colors, brown/beige/off-white. I wanted to get some colorful cushions and throw but they were so expensive even in sale  anyway got some other deco items in a combination of olive, yellow, rust and mauve..they are towards the brighter tones and may sound a bit OTT but come together nicely. I also got me a nice rug for the living room, it’s made up of bamboo, very pretty, great deal on sale , I just hope it lasts.

I’ll be doing my living room today so I can display my pwetty items

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Spiral you need to carry your files around a lot? Will something like this work?

Esselte Office - Oxford Portable File Box with Lid Lock, 11-1/8" Deep, 15-Lb. Capacity, Granite

http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=4289982/search=file%20storage&mode=about_mobileoffice

or this rolling one

http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=18716755/search=storage%20totes/st=product/sv=title&mode=about_mobileoffice

:hehe: It’s OK…You can use them again next year! BTW, post pics of your living room…all these things you mentioned seem very exciting!!

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

I did a lot of cleaning last weekend and yep, turned that mattress too
My husband said itnaa kaam kiyoon kar rahi ho, hire a cleaning lady and I said okay… lets do that in 2 weeks :hehe:

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Update about my spring cleaning project…

I cleaned up and organized the closet in the master bedroom. We also have a huge walk-in closet in the 2nd bedroom where hubby keeps all his clothes etc. He has kept is quite messy by displaying his socks, banyans and chaddis on the top closet shelf which looks…bad!! I’m thinking of buying the following organizers to keep his socks and undergarments:

Real Simple 6-Shelf Sweater Organizer - Bed Bath & Beyond

Real Simple Storage Bins (Set of 2) - Bed Bath & Beyond

I’m done cleaning up spice cabinets in the kitchen as well and thoroughly cleaned the countertops by removing microwave and other appliances(yeah i don’t do that everyday :o )

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

^CA, if you already have shelves, just buy some wicker baskets and put the innerwear in those… won’t be visible and will look nice. I use these:

I bought them from Ross… they were really cheap there.

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

CA I doubt if I’ll like them next year too, but they are bargain items so I guess a season’s display will be enough for their worth and then I can think of something else to do with them.. can’t post pics here, maybe in me blog..=)

I second MIA’s idea of baskets, if your husband is as clumsy as mine he’ll be super irritated by those hanging shelves and chances are those chaddis/banyans will go back to be scattered on that shelf…:hehe: and yea be easy on yourself, don’t let it get hectic =)

MIA I like the way your hubby thinks  The problem with housekeeping here is that the guys don’t do a job up to the mark and call me silly but I can’t just force them.. I just say it once and if I don’t like what they’ve done I do it myself :frowning: like my mother, she made sure what she said was done. but there’s also a bit of a language barrier so itna dimag khapanay say behtar khudi kar lo.. anyway I did get help to do bigger stuff done;)

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

My Update: I AM DONE!! well almost. I have minimal items in my living room so it was an easier job. Our owners recently redressed our sofas so they were clean but vacuumed them anyway. Got curtains cleaned, well the building's management did that but kaha tou mein nay na. Dusted under the tv and music system, something I don't do that regularly, just once a month or so. Lights, fan etc were already done last weekend.

Hired the housekeeping guy to get my whole apartment's windows cleaned and the walls dusted, which I was postponing till the end until the weather cleared up a little.

And finally the bathrooms. Well nothing satisfies me more than washing, scrubbing everything from top to bottom, which I can do thanks to the drainage system here. I have to regularly(once a week) de-clog the bath tubs, thanks to my ever falling *zulfain *so did that too. I am going to vacuum and mop up the whole place today and then I can sit back and relaaaax ....!

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

Omg, I need to spring too but have no motivation. Haaaaaiiiii Allah. I just simply have no motivation or energy. So I shall read through the old posts and hope for motivational pearls of wisdom.

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

yayyyyy … i’m done with everything … except no new cupboard yet  … and husband still has to do his share of taking out unwanted clothes …

and baqi sab? :@:

Re: Spring Cleaning Club

shssh farrah, we ‘need’ them

good luck with our lock wali cupboard :stuck_out_tongue:
**
Princess, **just start it without thinking much, once you get started then do some planning. If I plan ahead too much I end up with ‘just’ the planning..hehhe..

It feels so good afterwards. It went a bit over my schedule because of well, sheer laziness. It’s amazing how many excuses I can come up with for none else but myself.. kabhi 'it’s a bit dusty today, let this sand wave pass phir karoun gi, kabhi it was something else. I’ve never been this lazy in my life, starting here did me good as I felt being watched..(yea I know that’s a bit 10 year old:o )but well worked for me so :snooty:

That’s a great idea..thanks..I thought about it before but hubby turned it down but I think you’re right, it will be easier for him to take out what he wants without much work. I’ll go out this weekend for some shopping inshAllah.
