would a spouse ( husband) of a dutch national living and working in the UK ( both of them) need a visa to travel to the netherlands by plane ( going direct to amsterdam).
please it would be great if anyone can help.
on the dutch embassy website it says u dont but i am not that sure .
If the spouse is a UK national (or the national of any other EU country): No, he wouldn't need a visa for the Netherlands.
If he's a Pakistani citizen, then it depends on two things:
1) His residency status in the UK
2) Bi-lateral agreement between the UK and the Netherlands
To give you an example:
My wife (Pakistani citizen) and I (Austrian citizen) were traveling to Switzerland, which was not part of Schengen at that time. Because my wife had an Austrian residence visa she was allowed to travel to Switzerland without a separate Swiss visa. That's because there was a bi-lateral agreement between Austria and Switzerland to recognize residency visas of one another.
That particular issue has now been made void, because Switzerland is now part of Schengen, but for the UK it is still a valid question. The best thing would probably be to check with the Dutch Embassy directly and verify whether the information on their website is correct. And to be on the safe side: Take a printout of that website with you when you travel. And if there is any trouble at immigration in the Netherlands, show them that printout.
