Re: SPOTS!!!!!!!

By spots do you mean pimples?

Because we all go through a certain amount of that when we hit our adolescent years. It's embarrassing but it's also perfectly normal to have them.

First of all, while there's nothing really wrong with using a bit of makeup to cover things up, putting too much on will "choke" her skin. Skin needs oxygen as well. So if she's slathering it on, it will do more harm than good...plus caked on makeup usually draws attention to the flaws we're trying to hide. Also she's 12...maybe it's just me, but I think that's a little young for foundation.

She probably just needs a good routine...based on her skin type (dry, oily, combo, normal), she needs the appropriate cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen and possibly a few extras such as toner, a scrub, etc. but again, that depends on her skin...she might not need the extras. But she needs to find the right products for her skin and stick to them. Plus, a healthy diet, exercise and lots of water can do wonders.

If the problem is really bad, a trip to the dermatologist should help sort things out.

The pimples will settle down once her hormones settle down, no use of treating them know till that issue has been sorted. She should keep her face really clean and avoid wearing too much gunk that clogs pores when not properly cleansed and causes acne to flare-up. You must get her a cleansing/toning/moisturizing range with salicylic acid. Keep her hair off her face, change her pillowcase often..and ask her** NOT** to touch or pick on them.

Re: SPOTS!!!!!!!

You should take her to dermatologist right away so she knows the proper regimen as well as the proper medication (if required) to treat and control them right away. Some people don't realize how much acne can effect one's self esteem, especially when a girl enters adolescents. If you tell her it's just cuz she's getting older, that isn't going to help her at all.

First step is to avoid anything that is oil based. If she is going to resort makeup then it should only be water based, preferbly powder if it can be so. This includes moisturizers and anything else she is going to put on her face. Second step is to buy products which are specifically tailored for acne. This includes (like Gina said) face washes, astringents and topical acne medication. Most of them come with salicylic acid which "dries" out the skin so there isn't any oil trapped into the pores which produces acne. The proper regimen is to wash the face not more than 2 times a day (maybe 3 if you have really oily skin), wash it with either room temperature or cold water, then use the toner, then use moisturizer on the face. Get a topical application medication with benzoyl peroxide in it preferbly, which actively targets the breakout.

Another important thing is to exfoliate, but it's very dangerous to exfoliate a skin with breakouts, as it can make the acne worse. Use besan to make a thick paste, and use that as an exfoliant. Hydrate really well, and include a diet of fruits and vegetables, and avoid oily foods if at all possible. Do not pick at the acne as it just spreads the infection. If makeup has to be used, use something light and use it only when going to special occasions as the skin needs to breathe, and so if the clogs are blocked, it will just produce more acne.

Controlling acne requires lots of self discipline and it isn't easy to do so. The effects won't be seen for atleast a couple of weeks, so don't lose hope. And most importantly, see a dermatologist.

Re: SPOTS!!!!!!!

i think u hav got ur answer Queeniky
No need to buy anything expensive. best over the counter treatments are Neutrogena's stress control 3-in1 hydrating acne treatment. it has 2% salicylic acid with soothing ingredients so it doesn't dry out or irritate skin the way other SA products do. Also keep Clean & clear persagel 5 with 5% benzoyl peroxide. use it on the pimples only and leave overnight. but use liberally. pick either of one products and u r good to go unless it is stubborn acne or anything hormonal which i think its not reading ur post..
