Spot the error

Cricinfo lists the five overseas batsmen who have scored double centuries at Oval. What did they miss:

:konfused:

Re: Spot the error

Sochho. :emmy:

Re: Spot the error

Re: Spot the error

Re: Spot the error

Why is Miandad’s name missing from the list?

260 in 1987

Re: Spot the error

Thats one of them there is another one that I know of.

Re: Spot the error

The list isn’t comprehensive… a better one is available here (based on cricinfo but with all centuries scores): List of international cricket centuries at the Oval - Wikipedia

may be it’s because the Cricinfo query is limited to double centuries in matches that were won by the away team.](List of international cricket centuries at the Oval - Wikipedia)

Re: Spot the error

what about Zaheer Abbas’s famous inning of 240 runs :frowning:

Re: Spot the error

You are right but the way cricinfo presented the stats certainly misleads the reader. Sorry I should have posted it in my opening post. Here it is:

“There have been five double-centuries scored by visiting batsmen at The Oval. Viv Richards holds the record for the highest individual score (291). Don Bradman is the only visiting batsman to score two double-centuries at the venue.”

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/current/stats/index.html

Doesn’t mention that the stats relate to the batsmen from the winning side only

Re: Spot the error

Thats the one I was thinking off.

Re: Spot the error

In total there are 9 double hundreds scored by 8 **visiting batsmen **at The Oval.

Viv Richards (WI) 291 1976
Ponsford (Aus) 266, 1934
Miandad (Pak) 260, 1987
Bradman (Aus) 240, 1934
Zaheer Abbas (Pak) 240, 1974
Bradman (Aus) 232, 1930
Sunil Gavaskar (India) 221, 1979
Jayasuriya (SLA) 213, 1998
Murdoch (Aus) 211, 1884

Who will be the next Indian batsman after Gavaskar to achieve the feat?

Re: Spot the error

yep, that headline on Cricinfo is certainly incorrect. I didn’t read the headline but played around with the parameters by checking off the criterion on top of the stats table.

Re: Spot the error

Dravid already has one - see here: Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com

Re: Spot the error

You're right. Thanks. misssed out his name somehow

Re: Spot the error

Correction: In total there are 10 double hundreds scored by **9 **visiting **batsmen **at The Oval.

Viv Richards (WI) 291 1976
Ponsford (Aus) 266, 1934
Miandad (Pak) 260, 1987
Bradman (Aus) 240, 1934
Zaheer Abbas (Pak) 240, 1974
Bradman (Aus) 232, 1930
Sunil Gavaskar (India) 221, 1979
Rahul Dravid (India) 217, 2002
Jayasuriya (SLA) 213, 1998
Murdoch (Aus) 211, 1884

Who will be the next Indian batsman after Gavaskar and Dravid to achieve the feat?

Re: Spot the error

VP saab, you counted Bradman twice. (Granted he was twice the batsman most people are) Ab to error kabool keejiye!

Re: Spot the error

No they are right. Actually this is the list of Double Centuries of Visitors who won the match …
Just ignore the win matches and then u’ll get the correct result

Re: Spot the error

The list is crticinfo’s not mine.

read post 10 above.

Re: Spot the error
