ever since i was young - i’e been playing a lot of sports. moving on to jr. high…i started wearing hijab…but i stuck to my playing. now that im in high school, im figuring out that people are talking. a lotta the people in our muslim community have ‘somethings’ to say - about a girl playing volleyball and running cross country. in hijab.
girls - by a few hadith i’ve read - are not supposed to participate in activities that attract visual attention. i havent looked into it thoroughly yet because i missed the volleyball tryouts. and track is going to start in spring…so what do you guys know? if ur covered appropriately in accordance with islamic law..what are the rulings on playing sports?
my best friend wore hijab and played sports in high school
mashallah, she’s very good, religious girl
basically, she wore long sleeve tees-like the ones we got through school and what not. she wore plain white or black cotton hijab, and loose sweat pants.
i don’t wear hijab, but i don’t wear shorts and the like, so I also wore pants-we call 'em “swooshy” pants or sweat pants-tho those can get kinda.
i know my girl was also a fan of the dry fit long sleeve shirts Nike makes
forget those people. There is a SURAH about backbiting in Islam. You never see those same people talking about that
i have other friends who also played sports, etc. our coaches were understanding and our teammates didn’t care. it didn’t hinder us any and we still got to participate.
there is a lass in oz who plays football {soccer} she was targetted for covering her head and wearing long pants but her team mates stuck up for her. { a old thread re this topic exists}
i dunno bout other countries, but here, it’s almost a rule that in all womens sports , you must be half naked and “sexy” to be accepted. heck not even sports but in almost every aspect of society.
A few yrs back, there was some controversy in volleyball, where they changed the rules and said that the athletes had to wear two-piece bikinis, rather than the one-piece they normally wear
