When sending documents to apply for sponsoring a relative do we need to send originals or are photocopies okay?

No mention of which country you want to sponsor your relatives to, nor is there any mention of which country the embassy is in, or for that matter where the heck do you live yourself; and still resourceful people are coming in with great advice.
