sponsoring a relative to come to UK

Hi.
My husband and I want to sponsor his mother to come to visit us in UK and I was just wondering what we needed to do? Do we have to be homeowners? We do not own our home but have plenty of room for another person. Can we still qualify? If so what are all the requirements. Appreciate your help.

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

u need to show u are able to support a person fully
the best thing is to go to a lawyer who deals in immigration (a good quality lawyer) u wil have to pay but it is better than doing it urself unless u kno the full details.

i'l post more later

i would also recommend you visit your local citizen advice bureau, they can give you some sound advice as to how to go about it.

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

No need to pay any lawyer shawyers for their 'advice'.
I have done this a few times now. quite simple really.
Following papers are needed;

1- an 'Affidavit' written by either you or ur husband (whoever works and has the highest earnings).
In the affidavit (this is an Oath said by yourselves/husband) write in bullet points all that you are claiming/wanting.
e.g.

  • you wish to invite to come visit you guys on holiday for (don’t say 6 months if the Visa is 6 month max...write down 4.5 or 5 months)
  • if you are a UK passport holder mention it.
  • for a special reason (if any).
  • you live in a house/flat
    .
  • you earn .
  • you work for .
  • you are taking financial responsibility of all her expenses/stay while the Sponsored person is in UK. Once you have prepared this Affidavit take it to a ‘Commissioners of Oath’, these are any high-street Solicitors really and tell them you want a Affidavit/Oath signed by them, it will take 5 minutes and they will charge you 5 pounds once they have stamped it and stuff.

2- copy of bank statements showing reasonable amount in there.
3- copy of rental agreement perhaps ( if, as u say u don’t own the property and so showing Mortgage paper deeds is out of the question).
4- Sponsor’s passport copy.

These papers together with the Sponsored person’s own proof (showing she intends to go back to Pakiland, her bank statement etc) can then be submitted to the Paki authorities there.

If everything is in order, the process should take no longer than a month to get Visa.

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

Can the Affidavit/Oath be from both of us?

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

these are the things i actually wanted to mention, but cos i am not at home i cudnt see a copy of one so didnt have full details.

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

Do you want her to come and just visit, or do you want her to get residency here?

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

Just visit

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

ideally it needs to be from him...as she's his mother and all. but to answer the question, hmmm, it would (i guess, will make the case strongER if) its from both of you.

Never tried that meself so can't answer in the definitive.

Re: sponsoring a relative to come to UK

My mom was here in Dec for 6 weeks and we didnt have to make any affidavit

the forms are available on net for download... VAF1 and can be easily filled by anyone at home no need to go to a solicitor

you need to send them
- your bank statement for last 6 months
- your proof of residence (any utility bill)
- you rental agreement if you have rented the place
- yours or your husbands payslips for last 3 months.
- your hubby's passport copy
