The donate page isn't working for me. :( I am assuming it will be in US dollars?

Mehnaz, try the main page which is www.irw.org

Yes, the payment amount for the one-on-one sponsorship is in U.S. Dollars. smile

The 'Donate' page still isn't working. :( I'll try it again later.

donate page is down.

Munni, do u have any info on how the donations are used, what type of insitutions are these kids educated in, what are they provided based on this donation.

It would be great if we can have the answers for these here so everyone can see.

The select and orphan screens are cruel. You pick one orphan and you can see the faces of all those who you, basically, rejected. :(

maddie

psychologically it will direct u to sponsor more of them yourself or spread the word among friends and family so the others u did nto pick get help as well.

i dontknow which one is better, namesless/faceless donations or by picking a name.

yeh ive been donating an orphan throught muslim hands i think its a great job they are doin,,,mad scientist is rite tho its so diffiucult picking one...ive been doin my for just over a couple of mths and its only £20 a mth which isnt alot but can make all the difference.

This is what the link I provided says. I'm guessing its working for some of you, but not for others:

Orphaned But Not Alone

Losing one or both parents can be traumatic for any child in any situation. In countries where war, famine and disease are a part of everyday life, millions of children are orphaned and left to struggle for survival.

Islamic Relief has been supporting orphans since 1986. Although we can never claim to be a substitute to what parents offer, we can attempt to give confidence, hope and love to many of these needy orphans.

With your help, we can give these children the care they need, providing them with food, shelter, healthcare, education and emotion support.

A Little Over $1 a Day

For a little over $1 a day, you can help provide food, shelter, education and basic medical care to orphans

Full amount of the sponsorship is recommended, however monthly payments through automatic deduction from your credit card is also available.
An Orphan Progress Report including a photograph and information about the orphan will be sent to you at least once a year.
Your contribution to the orphan will be delivered on a monthly basis.

Orphans General Fund

The Orphans General fund helps more than one orphan. Donations that are collected are used for projects that benefit orphans and their families.

Through the Orphans General Fund you can help orphans and their families in countries other than those mentioned in this brochure. It also allows Islamic Relief to help those most in need where it is not possible to set up a feasible one-to-one sponsorship program.

Regular donations of any amount can make a BIG difference in the service we provide to orphans and their families.

Some info about Islamic Relief:

Islamic Relief works in two general areas: It collects money on the one hand and implements projects on the other. Islamic Relief therefore maintains two types of offices: fundraising offices and field offices.

There are nine fundraising offices which are situated in the following countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Islamic Relief has 14 field offices spread across different countries where we work, including Albania, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Chechnya, Egypt, India, Iraq, Kosova, Mali, Pakistan, Palestine and Sudan.

In addition, our charitable projects extend to almost 30 countries around the world, including El Salvador, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kashmir, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Yemen.

Islamic Relief began working in Pakistan in 1992 and since that time has gained a reputation for hard work and integrity with Government departments, institutional donors and beneficiaries. Emergency projects such as the massive refugee program in Balochistan, in response to the Afghan crisis, have completed development and welfare projects carried out in Pakistan. These have included the Kharan water project, micro-credit programs, which have supported hundreds of children through education and with health care provision.

Islamic Relief sends out a newsletter, to those interested. It's short but it often talks about different projects they are doing.
