sponge pudding

anyone made it here? any UK guppan willing to share a recipe? i am in love with it:hinna:

re: sponge pudding

Aisha, it's just a plain sponge with raisins in it.... Nothing special or complex... I'm sure you've made cakes before.... Just add raisins, et voila! :)

re: sponge pudding

What Maroush said. Construct a basic sponge pudding mix of flour, butter, eggs and sugar. I don't think you can get suet in Dubai. This is normally added to it. You can omit that and just add raisins to the sponge mix. Serve with custard.

thanks KB will do that.

Re: sponge pudding

Hi Aisha,

There are various flavors in sponge pudding. So, I’ve included a few different recipe links for you. The first link is for lemon sponge pudding and the following are for chocolate and orange sponge pudding. I hope the links work. Happy baking!

Re: sponge pudding

Well thank you to the few sensible answers I have receieved from you lot. :chai:

No the recipe for the original question by Aisha and Sponge Pudding are entirely different.
They are two different dishes and have entirely different taste , texture and aroma. :silly:

Aisha google it and you will find lots of versions for your original question.

Re: sponge pudding

^ You’re right, cos aisha’s requested recipe contains suet in it, whereas a normal sponge doesn’t, hence the different taste and aroma.

Suet is usually dehydrated beef fat, but they have vegetarian varieties also, which are made up of fat such as palm oil combined with rice flour…

But i think suet is prolly not obtainable from dubai… or is it? :hmmm:

Re: sponge pudding

Maroushyy I will check in Waitrose and Spinneys. I am sure I can find it there.

Re: sponge pudding

ok :

Preparation time less than 30 mins
Cooking time 30 mins to 1 hour

Ingredients
250g/8oz self-raising flour
pinch salt
125g/4oz shredded suet
90-120ml/6-8tbsp water
4 tbsp raspberry jam, warmed
a little milk
1 egg, beaten, and caster sugar to glaze

Method
1. Sift the flour into a bowl with the salt. Add the suet and sufficient water to create a soft but not sticky dough.
2. Turn on to a floured board and roll out to a rectangle about 20x30cm/8x12in.
3. Brush the pastry with the warmed jam, leaving a 1cm/½in border all round.
4. Fold in this border and brush with milk. With the short side towards you, roll up the pastry loosely and seal the ends well.
5. Place on a greased baking sheet, with the sealed edge underneath. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with caster sugar.
6. Bake in the oven at 200C/400F/Gas 6 for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
7. Remove from the oven, sprinkle on a little more sugar and serve hot with home-made English custard.

How is it???????????????
