You can oil your hair a couple times a week. I prefer olive oil. Use what works for you. Apply to the scalp to the ends of your hair. Massage and wash after an hour or two. I’ve noticed that often times split ends result because we’re not careful during the combing and washing process.
Don’t wash your hair with hot water as it has the potential to damage the cuticle of the hair. Use warm water instead. Toward the end, give your hair a blast of cold water. Cold water seals the cuticles of your hair and gives them a shine. I’ve also read that it’s best to use a wide-tooth comb for your hair. Running a narrow tooth comb has greater chances of splitting hair. Don’t brush hair when wet, use wide tooth comb when it’s damp.
Also,** before** shampooing your hair, brush/comb it to remove tangles. That way, you’ll have fewer tangles during shampooing. And some people, while shampooing, take their bottom hair and roll it up to the top of their head…this has the potential to create tangles. The more tangles you have, them more pulling and tugging you’ll do when you comb your hair. So, try to keep it with few tangles as possible.
Apart from that, weather plays a role. Winter can make hair dry and prone to breaking. Lack of certain vitamins/minerals can also result in dry brittle hair. Drinking plenty of water keeps hair elastic.
