Spirtuality and Science

Excerpt from Angels and Demons, a decent book but too commercialized in my opinion. Some parts are really nogin knockers though:

I thought this was a very interesting piece. Almost like its a natural law of being; its engraved in our heads (or maybe just mine) that religion is seperate from Science. That science defies religion - but does it really? Believers would say that God has given us knowledge and hence science – so how can one be co- dependant but still contrasting?

Hmmmm …

Re: Spirtuality and Science

Almost everytime I come across an argument about God vs Science, I ask people to read 'The Symbiotic Universe'. Although it seems that author is trying to pass the message that science does not need god, but the undertone of that book is totally opposite.

In one chapter he talks about the moments after big bang when for every 10 billion and 1 particles, only 10 billion anti-particles were created. 10 billion pairs annihilated into energy and the one left over made the universe that we have. No scientific explanation of where that extra particle came from

Another chapter is about the wierd interaction of air and water. When water of ocean, lakes etc cools down, it rises to the surface. Warm water goes dows, cold water comes up (so sea life can survive at the bottom even if the surface freezes over). Air works in opposite way. Warm air goes up, cold air settles down. This wierd and opposite behavior of air and water is what makes our life going or else we were long gone.

Its a great read for all the scientific mind people.

Re: Spirtuality and Science

The whole concept of anitmatter is totally mind blowing - but if you really think of it everything is completely symmetrical so matter must have an anti matter...

Who wrote the book?

Re: Spirtuality and Science

Some guy called George Greenstein.

There is another theory that syas that matter and anti matter got separated during the initial stages of creation and there is a part of our universe that is entirely made out of antimatter. You are right, the concept is pretty mind blowing.

Re: Spirtuality and Science

hawww - a part of our universe made of antimatter?
but how can that exsist?

A part made of antimatter in a universe made of matter.
I'm not buying that.

Universe is a hollow, nothing but energy. Matter exist inside universe, universe is not made out of matter.

Its like inside a big balloon, you keep two magnets but so much apart that they can exist without attracting each other.

Re: Spirtuality and Science

hollow --- ?
I don't think I agree with that description. Or its not fitting well. :)

It will all fit well when you include the so called string theory.........

Matter and Anti Matter .....all comes with strings attached...........:)

:smack:

Universe is a big ball and a cow is balancing it on her both horns.

Is that description good for you Miss Einstein.

Re: Spirtuality and Science

no no, for Muniya it should be the Universe is Edward and Edward is the Universe, a big ball of vampireness :chai:

Re: Spirtuality and Science

Wow - you two are so special.

Edward
you’ll be proud to know that i’ve added I heart Jacob to my list too after the movie.
Now please stick to the topic at hand or I’ll have to remove your post :stuck_out_tongue:

Obama thanks - I actually looked up the strings theory.. it does clarify the antimatter theory. I’d previously read it in a different light. Ie. everything in the universe is made in complete pairs - sorta like a Ying to every Yang / light and dark/ good and evil

Re: Spirtuality and Science

hollow - definition of hollow by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Hollow: having a cavity, gap. or space within

So the universe is hollow huh?
