What causes spinal disk movement? A family member of mine is going through this and they are considering a surgery. What are the treatments for this? Anyone who has been through similar condition?
Re: Spinal Disk Problems
A traumatizing blow or injury.
A member of my family is also going through the same issue and various doctors keep asking her to remember if she was in an accident in childhood or something of that sort. She wasn't, and her case is very rare.
Re: Spinal Disk Problems
I believe it's also caused by degeneration of the spinal disks.
Re: Spinal Disk Problems
depends, some people only need conservative treatment for spondylolisthesis, some needs surgery. Depends on symptomatic presentation.

Some of my close family member is going through the same as well and nothing happened at all but it happened all of a sudden. Is she taking medicine regularly?

Is that true the surgery is not 100% successful in most cases? It cannot fix the problem or if it does then they might need to get it again after sometime?

Yup, she's been on *very *strong pain killers. As of late, she went in for a epidural injection. Her medical doc said it will last for 6 months. She seems to be doing fine.
Re: Spinal Disk Problems
My brother suffered a slipped disc (tail bone) and was unable to walk for a while (1 - 1.5 years). He had other health problems at the time which no one in Pakistan could diagnose even though we went to the best in Punjab.
His disc slipped a day before he had a flight abroad and it was the doctors there that sorted everything out. He recovered from his herniated disc through physical therapy which is why it took so long. Slippages can also occur due to being overweight and having weak muscles in the back i.e a weak core. Ask the docs if alternatives to a surgery are available and go with that...back surgeries will cause complications as a person ages.
Re: Spinal Disk Problems
I had disc surgery and it was the best thing that happened to me! I had it in Pakistan.

I'm glad you had a successful surgery. Consider yourself lucky!! But I have lost all faith in the doctors over here. My brothers disc slipped due to a whole bunch of doctors giving the wrong diagnosis and what was happening to him was crazy.
The doctors abroad were perplexed but it was due to their intrigue that they got to the bottom of his problems. They actually wanted to find out what was going on and find a cure....unlike most of our lazy assed *******s over here who just want to get to the next patient.

My elderly dad also had successful disc surgery in Pakistan (he's now in the UK) and he's doing quite well MA! If doctors are recommending surgery you should go ahead. A friend's husband had surgery too a while ago in the US and even though he still has problems he is much better than before. Please remember, a surgery is not a cure, just like heart bypass will not cure you of heart disease but you will have to take special care all your life.
Also, try and get pain management injections if recommended. I have another disc that is herniated (the one not operated upon) and it well after a series of pain management injections. Most discs do heal after six months but in some cases like my other disc surgery, an operation is recommended.
Prayers for your brother. I was also given an initial wrong diagnosis here in the U.S. that I had a pulled muscle (by two doctors). It was a physical therapist who used to practice in Pakistan and lived in the US now who diagnosed me and pushed me to go to the doctors again who finally re diagnosed me.

Its such a mixed bag...some people go through everything without a hitch, while others are stuck in diagnosis hell.
I have a minor back problem myself, which I've managed by sleeping on the floor. All I got was verbal feedback from the doctors which doesn't really help. I know I need PT to fix my posture but no one seems to really point me in the right direction. I've checked with 3 specialists...and all they say is "do this exercise, do that" end result is...0. Its a pain in the butt really.
