Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

Saag.............is.........eeew!

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

Love saag. Hate palak.

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

On a more serious note.....No, it's not a foolish question. I was wondering the same thing a while back. Asked my mom and she said something similar to Daddy's Girl. Spinach is palak. And saag....refers to spinach that is also combined with mustard greens.

So when you make palak....you're strictly cooking spinach leaves (though you may add other ingredients like potatoes or meat or paneer to it).

But when you make saag....it's a combination of spinach....and mustard greens/methi, etc

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

what daddy's girl said.

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

In UP and CP, saag can be of any leafy vegetables - like qulfay ka saag, methi-palak ka saag, sarson ka saag, chulai ka saag etc. In punjab they only call sarsoon ka saag - a saag. Thats the difference.

Re: Spinach-Palak or saag???

palak - no way saag is too strong for my liking

Same here! Saag has a much stronger flavor that I've never developed a taste for. I also prefer the texture of spinach over the more mushy texture of saag. Go palak!

Yum, I love them both!

Daddy's Girl is right. Palak is essentially made from spinach and Saag can either be made of mustard leaves on it's own or mustard leaves mixed with spinach.
