Spice storage

Hey guys.

Nice to be back after ages. I’m married and moved into my new home. Just wondering if you guys can give me some help. I can’t figure own how to store open spice packets… you know the garam masla and chilli powder packets. Once their open I fold them and leave them in the cupboard. When I go back they’re open and spilled. I need help pleaseeeee. I can’t afford those expensive spice rack things.

Thanks in advance

Re: Spice storage

I store mine in clear glass jars. If you have an Ikea where you live you can get awesome small spice jars from there

Re: Spice storage

I use these small mason jars for my spices

I get the 8 oz size, and it usually holds an entire small packet of spices. When it comes time to refill, I wash and dry it completely and then refill them. Works like a charm, and they are inexpensive

Re: Spice storage

^ what do you use for lids, since the ones that come with mason jars are two piece canning lids?

Re: Spice storage

I think I remember you - you started that thread about the first night of marriage lol. Hope you’re well and everything went okay - it’s silly when you look back on it lol

Spice racks are not always expensive (depends on your budget…) I’ve been meaning to buy this one for ages:

But you can get smaller ones which are obviously also cheaper. Are you in the UK? Try searching for spice rack in Argos. Or as someone else suggested Ikea have great little glass jars which are useful as they’re see through.

If you’re REALLY tight on money you could always just clean out old jars e.g. pasta sauce, salsa jars etc, and put spices in there. I’m currently storing my zeera in an old Dolmio jar til I buy my lovely spice rack lol

Re: Spice storage

If you live close to an Ikea, you can buy these: RAJTAN Spice jar - IKEA

as well as the little clips to seal the open bags of masala: BEVARA Sealing clip, set of 30 - IKEA

Another option are these jars from Crate and Barrel: Glass Spice Jar in Food Storage | Crate and Barrel which are a little more expensive but are really cute.

Re: Spice storage

I use the canning lids provided. The pop out part fits very tightly. I’ve never had an issue wig the seperate pieces and it makes it super easy to label.

Re: Spice storage

I use clear glass jars as well. Lentils, flour, and beans in plastic containers.

Re: Spice storage

For storing lentils, flour, beans, pasta, sugar etc I use these…they are the best things ever!!!

Re: Spice storage

Re: Spice storage

The funniest I’ve seen is regular sized Nutella jars. For some reason it all came together and looked really nice in their kitchen.

Re: Spice storage

i got small crystal jars for kitchen wall wth basic spices and rest i stored in plastic containers you can find at very reasonable price from any hypermarket.

Re: Spice storage

I use Libby’s jars and they are amazing, I use the 4.5 ounce ones for storing smaller spices like cumin, cloves, garam masala etc. and use the 12 ounce ones for storing Red Pepper/Coriander Powder/Haldi etc as these are used the most. I love the smaller ones and they look so pretty set in the drawer.
