How do I know what SPF level sun block I should use. Right now, the face moisturizer I use has SPF level 15 while another one I have has SPF 20. What’s the difference and which one should I use?
I went to the mall this weekend and they were handing out charts with this SPF info.
Very Fair Always burns easily; never tans 30-50
Fair Always burns easily; tans minimally 30-50
Light Burns moderately; tans eventually 15-30
Medium Burns minimally; always tans well 10-15
Dark Rarely burns; tans readily 10
Very Dark Never burns; becomes deeply pigmented 10
But from what i've read and heard before ,15 and higher is the best bet. And if you live somewhere like Florida or Cali than I would than 30.
Sun Protection Factor. This number usually between 0-50 determines the amount of sun that is blocked by a sunscreen. A number 15 SPF sunscreen blocks 95% of the sunrays. dermatologistskincare.com usually recommends applying a higher SPF (30) as it is has been shown that people usually apply less sunscreen than is needed. Sunscreens should be applied several times a day if one is out in the sun.
They did tests on SPF 15 and over at my bhai's university. He told me that SPF 15 is sufficient for everyone and there is no need really to buy anything higher. But he could have been wrong, though he sticks to his story. Maniac is right in pointing out that you need to reapply it often, and also, try to wear a hat and shades when out. So that is what I use, if any. smile
