Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
i say keep at it, ladies!! i dont even have kids yet but i'm getting box after box of good lookin' hand me down's from my aunts and uncles! sweeet! :D
maroush, i'd like you to adopt me and my future children, please. i'll take hand me down's from you any day!
Re: Spending $$$ on kid’s clothes
branded stuff is what aunts and uncles and grandparents are for. ![]()
Gap, Gymboree clothes are best, they last long even Macys carry good brands. But for home my children wear Target clothes on parties they wear brand names. But here is the thing I get them on sales like even 30% off is good deal too.
Children place is a nice store too.
Muniya we know u are a branded lady;)
My neice was the long awaited arrival into our family, and i don't think my sister brought her any clothes for the whole first year, cause we were obsessed!!!
baby gap, Bon Bleu, Ralph Lauren, Monsoon, totally went overboard, didnt bother at looking at the price, if it was nice, we brought it.
I remember both me and my youngest sister went to Gap at eid to buy her an outfit, and we paid 35 quid just for her shoes (that was 6 years ago)
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
i dont see why we shouldnt clothe them in expensive clothing? apnay naseeb ka lakay atha hai bacha.. why nto spend on them?
i buy both cheap and expensive clothing for my 8 month old.. as long as its good quality.. but i have on occassion bought ridiculously expensive clothing.. if u can afford it, why not?
we give charity, we give sadqa, we put money aside for him.. everything is set.. if still then u can splurge.. i dont see why not.
he has gap, he has next, he has designer jackets too.. but then my htinking is.. my next one will be able to wear them too.. and i dont think they outgrow them THAT fast as ppl like to make an excuse about..i mean some brands have silly ass sizing.. i mean my osn has been wearing this full suit since he was a friggin 3 month old and he stillf its in it easily..!! i can easily say i have gotten my moneys worth from everything i bought for him, clothing wise. but hten im always dressing him up, regardless if we are going anywhere or not.. the only way i can see clothes going to a waste and a baby outgrowing them is if u spent money on formal outfits and u didnt end up going out all that much... i say u dress them up for ureself.. hell my son even wears shoes inside.. i bought them cuz i liked them and by god i will make good use of them :d
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
Well.. well.. I dont have kids, but I do have an opinion :D
I think one should buy cheap and expensive clothes for the child.. like boots, jackets should be of good quality, so even if I have to pay a bit extra I will do so, as they are more of use IMO! .. However I do not agree with all this "hopla" about"ohh my kids need to look so cute and stylish all the time" .. cuz honestly, some of the clothes nowadays for the kids, these stylish clothes that is, are really not so confortable for the kids to be in all the time .. so buy all kinds and plz let your kids know that a BRAND doesnt make them any better/worse .. Pre-teens obsessed with brands is just a bit too much! Let them know good quality can be brandless... ;)
And and I dont like the handing down! I dont like when u buy expensive clothes for the elder with the thought that the younger can also wear it, it just ticks me.. each to his own of course, but it ticks me and my bhabhi and a lot of desi ladies do it, and find it normal, but seriously it tics me .. I would rather buy a less expensive but new jacket for both then.. u get me yeah
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
^ my sister thinks just likes you and it erks her when I put a hand me downs on my 2nd daughter. She is a middle child obviously suffers from the MC syndrome.
I don't buy my daughters much. The grandparents and her khala are their wardrobe specialists.
I have to say I have not saved any clothes. I throw everything out. Am I wierd parent that pictures are enough for me?
me too
hehe
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
Don't have kids yet but probably won't need to buy them clothes because the grandparents, khala, mamoo, chachas, and my millions of aunts, uncles and cousins are already waiting for their arrival. I'm already hearing all the excitement and how they will be spoiled rotten.
Personally, I love the clothes TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Target carry. I have bought the cutest of stuff for hubby's baby cousins, and they are great bargains ($1-$4!!!). I wouldn't mind splurging once in a while on my baby.. my schmookins is all worth it, iA.
Marsha Marsha Marsha! ![]()

I love Marshalls and TJ Max too - they carry so many brand names for 1/4 the price.
You don't feel very "royal" shifting through the racks but they have some adorable stuff for kids.
i don’t have sisters and neither did my other khalas’ daughters, so the stuff got carted down from one cousin to anotehr. i was the last one to get the frocks and dresses. i didn’t realize it until i hit the double digits and i think after that i rebelled.
now my nice stuff is being worn by neices :halo:
amen sista.
unless you got teh typical bought-it-at-sale-but-it’s-totally-not desi family ![]()
anyways, i wouldn’t feel comfortable buying really expensive stuff for a kid. if it’s a stuff like everyday shoes or a nice warm jacket then yeah probably, but to dress a kid like suri cruise is just too much. the monies goes into the education savings.

The section for kids here at all these places is pretty neat and organized, as compared to let's say, Walmart. When I first went to TJ Maxx to buy stuff for a baby, I was so impressed with their collections, such steals really.
YEAH YEAH your opinion so well matches mines. :k:
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
Noor came much later than my nieces and nephews so she didn't have hand-me-downs but she certainly did get all the GAP and Mexx stuff from aunts and uncles.
I just can't bring myself to spend list price on something just because it has a specific label on it. It has nothing to do with being able to afford it or not.....maybe it has to do with the personalities and "lifestyles of excess" that I see some folks have. I would either donate the money to a good cause or put it away for her.
I definitely go overboard on formal clothing for her; mainly because I know that it will not be ruined as it is worn for a short while and later can be handed down for someone else to love.
I dont have kids yet either but I am with you Pareezay! I’m the eldest in my family and in my Khandaan! I’m engaged and everyone is already talking about how awesome it will be once I have kids. haha. I have a feeling I will not have to buy anything for a while in the beginning…
And I personally am a big big fan of TJ Max and Marshalls!!! You can find the cutest things there for the most unbelievable prices!!!
My youngest brother is only nine years old (16 yrs younger than me!!!) and I have been obsessed from the day he was born with buying him the most stylist and cutest clothes
That is how I discovered how awesome the Baby department at those stores are.
Always a big fan of Baby Gap too… the quality is just so good. I always got stuff on sale though!
My mom has five kids (mA) and she had no problem doing the hand me down thing. She has 2 daughters and 3 sons… its like why not?? Usually these hand me downs have hardly been worn! Kids don’t really care and in all honesty, is not like they are ONLY wearing hand me downs. My youngest bro has 2 older brothers and definitely has had his fair share of hand me downs. But being the baby of the khandaan he has a closet full of expensive brand new clothes as well!!!
My mom tells me that when we were younger there were SO MANY clothes that she couldnt even keep track of hanging on to them to use later for another kiddo. So each time she went to Pakistan she took a suitcase full of these clothes and give them to the more unfortunate distant relatives who had small children and could not afford to get their kids good quality clothing. She said she felt better doing that as opposed to giving the clothes away to Salavation Army.
She also has a memory box for each of us kids that holds some of her favorite outfits of ours from our childhood. These were not hand me downs nor were they given away ![]()
I confess that I kept two of my baby bro’s little one piece sleepers which were my favorite … for memory sake. ![]()
Kids grow up so fast!!! I wish my bro was still a baby … :hinna:
Re: Spending $$$ on kid's clothes
^ awww, thats adorable! and how nice of your mom to make a memory box! awesome idea.
