Re: Spending Money?
Desis generally do spend on food, especially if you're used to of a certain quality. I can't scrimp on food either, most of my expenditures go that way.

Re: Spending Money?
Is this topic about buying stuff, or cooking food?
Yes, you are right, I am amazed too sometimes how much people who make same as me spend on things. Changing cars every 2 years, vacations, big screen TVs bought just on a whim. I guess it's just a different mindset. For a lot of people being in deep in debt is completely normal.
Re: Spending Money?
Many a times there are 4 foods being cooked simultaneously in the kitchen. One for the two older kids, one for me as i totally avoid oil, a regular one for wife and Mom/Dad and one for the little one. Usually Begum cooks three times for the kids, rice at noon, fried meat/chicken in the afternoon and roti/pasta at night.

could be a couple of things
1) there could be a salary difference or an income difference you dont know about. i.e. soemone could be making the same as you, but has other investments that gives then income as well
2) they may not be saving as much as you
3) their spending profile may be a little different as you noted, they may spend less on food. have different fixed expenses, less financial commitments
Re: Spending Money?
i dont know where u live but what i see ppl doing here is that they buy almost everything (apart from groceries) on Credit Cards! and lead a life of stress, stress and more stress bcoz the interest on not paying the loan on time is huge...
just so you know, Many people buy everything on creditcards, even groceries, but thats because they get points which result in free airline tickets or upgrades.
But you are right, many people dont know how to use credit properly or abuse it, I had done it at one time and it took some time and effort to dig out from that.
Re: Spending Money?
That is such a scam
… I have 110,000 points and I tried to reserve a flight (within 48 states) and they still want me to pay additional $168 per ticket (in addition to 25000 miles) ![]()
Re: Spending Money?
I have used my frequent flyer miles from Northwest/KLM to go to Pakistan 3 times. But those were my miles accumulated by flying, not by using a card that gives you points. I had half a million at one point.
On the use of credit card, to me, its just a convenience and nothing else. I have never carried a balance in my life.
Re: Spending Money?
aik point usage strategy bhi hoti hai.
best usage may be upgrades than outright tickets. although short hops on american are liek 15K miles.
now it depends on the destination, sounds like you have the AAdvantage plan, if you did not use the points then you would be paying more. it does make sense in many cases for domestic flights to just buty the ticket rather than use points because the return on points is not high in relation to the dollars youa re saving.
in my view still the best usage of points is for upgrades or to get longer flights. I mean 60K to china is better than 30K to new jersey, know what I mean mate?

Re: Spending Money?
Then we should stop using those credit cards
and the cards who offer rebate usually don’t give rebate on everything.

I would rather use my credit card to get cash back (i.e. 5% on Discover Cards).

I hardly use my points, its just helpful to have an elite status on a flight cuz then while avg joes are standing outside, I am in , have my luggae in overhead bin and am sitting all relaxed in the preferred seating already.
I am saving points for begum and I to make a trip to the far east. mile for mile, thats the best value ..
and as someone said, only thing u get whe u get a discover card is that you discover that no one takes discover :D
