how much do u think is enuff for a 4 week tour? i dont have to pay for accommodation (phew!).. it’d be mainly shopping and presents and maybe food if im on my own
what do u think is sufficient?
also, should cash be carried around or is it ok to use my EFT card?
err.that depends onwhere you are going, exchange rate, inflation and your penchant for the finer things in life. Four weeks in US with no travel or accomodation can cost around $1200- 460000
Paris is pretty expensive. I think you can minimize it by riding the Metro anyway, plus you should get a museum pass that allows you to go to the various museums. Youi c an get it at the Lourve or Rodin. For food, if you eat in the Latin Quarter, then it is pretty cheap. But try to have a couple fo nice meals in the marais, a moroccan joint called 404 and also Geroges on top of the Pompidou center is fabulous. Great views of the city.
Shopping in Paris..well...the only way to get value is if you want to buy LV or Hermes stuff. Also, try collette..it is a good store and there are few chic shops in the area. Other than that, Printemps is like any mall..

if you book eurostar from paris to london in advance, it will much cheaper. you will also save time and money for travel to airports.
have look at www.eurostar.com why visiting london just for one day?? be my guest if you want to.
i was going to be visiting an aunt there but shes coming here now.. which means im going to be staying in london for two days instead of going to paris...
I went to Paris just 2 weeks ago. Thank God I was staying with relatives. Otherwise it would have been very expensive.
Here is what I paid at the main sites there:
Eiffel tower: € 10.40 per person (if you go to the top level)
Disneyland: € 40.00 per person and day
Louvre: € 8.00 per person (€ 6.50 if you go on Monday or Wednesday evening, Tuesday it is closed, Thursday to Sunday it closes at 5.30 pm)
Metro/Bus/RAR:
Single ticket: € 1.30
Carnet (10 single tickets): € 10.00
Pass for 1 day (zone 1-2): € 5.40
Pass for 1 week (zone 1-2): € 14.50 (Carte Orange)
Dine out:
Pizza Pino (excellent, but of course expensive restaurant at Champs Elysees)
Cafe di Roma (on Champs Elysees as well)
A cafe on Montmartre, but unfortunately I can´t remember it´s name
When I went to London I had taken $1,000 spending money just for entertainment and gifts, etc. I was there for a little over a week (most of this was in the form of traveller's checks).
If you visit the US, I'd recommend bringing say $2,000-$3,000 for the month for gifts and food even though you may not necessarily use all the cash.
Use traveller's checks and/or credit cards where ever possible as they're safer to travel with than cash; however, always have some cash handy as well, needless to say.
sweetpie, $3000! geez..i guess thats how much i'll end up taking.. i dont have to pay for any accommodation.. well only in london and im going extremely cheapo there.. looking for under 50 pounds.. and thank goodness ive found some for 30 pounds
