Speeches and presentations are now becoming common at desi weddings. I’m not sure if I enjoy them or would like to see them very much.
Desi weddings usually start pretty late as is and the added speeches and presentations often bore many of us to death.
A speech or two lasting 2 minutes max might be acceptable, but then some weddings have up to 4-5 people speaking at varying lengths.
Presentations are still a lot better, but the combo of presentation and speeches is a little too much to handle.
Having said that, I recently had to say a few words at a wedding recently, but I was sort of made to do it. I didn’t have a way out; however, I kept it to a few words and that was it.
What often spoils the experience is people not listening or little kids running and screaming or doing things that are distracting or annoying.
Given that its difficult for desis to start weddings at 7pm (or on time), I’m more inclined to mubarakbad do, khao peeyo aur chaltay bano system.
