I’m a very regular type of person, no special talents/skills other than obsessive compulsive disorder in cleaning and organizing closets . Other than that, I could paint but I don’t anymore, I can write, but I forgot how to hold a pen…I can’t sew or knit or make curtains. I can’t cook too well but just enough to keep us all alive.
I really regret not having taken sewing lessons because if I had, I would have saved so much money on my clothes and hubbies jammies like Hareem, yes our very own Hareem who is mashaAllah so talented that Psyah bhai doesn’t go to bed unless he’s wearing custom stitched flannel pyjamas with AlHareem on the label .
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I think I’d really like my kids to have some knowledge other than the regular academics and sports.
I’m thinking of sewing and woodworking. How about you all?
teach your kids martial arts...so they can kick ass when necessary
oh and teach the girls sewing/cooking and guys the electrician/plumbing stuff a little bit :D:
^How chauvinistic is that? Girls or boys, everyone should know these basic skills.
I have basic electrician/plumbing skills thanks to my dad and know sewing too since my mom made me take a sewing course when I finished school (i can do basic stitching, embroidery, quilting and probably more if I wanted to :D)
Niksik, thats a great idea… TLK can teach them the basic handyman/plumbing skills and you can enroll them for sewing classes and woodwork, etc. and yeah do Martial arts too, they should know self defense. I know I’m going to make sure my daughter learns all these growing up
lol niksik, don't be sad, you are good at organizing and organizing is the key to success in anything.
I plan to teach my boys as many things as possible inshallah. For little kids little bit of housework like making their bed, putting clothes and jackets in right places, helping set the table for food, baking and cooking with parents' help and and a bit of gardening like growing vegetables and herbs in pots are good starters.
