Re: special/sentimental moments

some guppies are familiar with my battles with infertitlity from other threads, so you’ll appreciate this truly ā€œromanticā€ gesture from my hubby…

my mother (who is no longer with us :(), was an exceptional seamstress, very creative. when she was pregnant with me, she made a patchwork quilt, made up of 9 squares, with something embroidered in each square (a puppy on a unicycle, a circus seal balancing a ball on his nose..etc)..that quilt went on to become my ā€œsecurity blanketā€, we were inseperable, and the blanket became like a family member…lol! as i grew up, it hung around my bed, sometime under it (!), and when my sister came back to the US to have her baby, my neice was wrapped in it on the plane ride back to KHI…as adulthood settled in, my blanket was moved to the linen closet in Ammi’s house, and packed into my suitcase when I got married and finally moved out…I must admit I kind of forgot about it for a while, but my husband remembered it, and while we struggled with our battle to concieve, and endured countless surgeries, procedures, shots and whatnot, he managed to fish it out from a forgotten box without my knowledge, and asked my mom to ā€œfreshen it upā€ and make it new again for our baby…my mom worked on it without telling me, giving a new border, ripping up the tattered embroidery and making new elements (including adding the name we picked out for our son!)…when at last our miracle baby entered this world, my husband presented me with my newly made over baby blanket for our new baby…that has to be the most romantic thing he has ever done!

my boys love that blanket, and every friday night when we have ā€œmovie nightā€ on the living room floor, they fight over who gets it and WHO that blanket actually belongs too (they all 3 claim ownership)…it is a constant reminder to me of my mom’s labor of love and my husband’s devotion to me and our kids…ok, i need some kleenex now
