Re: special event!!!

Do your parents live close to you? If they do, you can give them a trip somewhere...maybe even a Hajj package? If they dont, you can pay for a trip out to see you, all expenses paid.

You can gift them so many things:

His and her watches

An evening out to their favorite restaurant or an outing you know they will enjoy

A spa day, if they're into that kind of a thing

Usually parents have everything they need so its hard to get them things for special occasions...I would suggest either a trip somewhere they havent been yet or a Hajj package.

Re: special event!!!

:) thats soo nice to read..u are such a loving daughter! I think at home is the best or else check out restaurants which has a party hall..that way u just have to pick them up & tell them u are giving a treat at this restaurant...once u reach there take them up to the hall...wow.:)

or else if u plan to do it at home...buy 2 tickets for the cinema & tell them to go there & act like teenagers..N enjoy..(though this maybe a bit difficult!!) then decorate the place...

for a gift...since they have everything...i love the hajj idea or Umrah package...or else u can give them a thoughtful gift...cuz parents dont care whether its expensive or not...u can probably make a complete album with all your family pics...covering all the special events in their life...& their marriage...prob make a slide show out of them & show it in the party...:) :) best of luck! & let us know how it goes

Re: special event!!!

^ Ohmigosh you just gave me such a great idea for MY parents!!!

Why dont you make them a scrapbook??? Put together pictures, report cards, mark sheets, momentos, things you saved, etc and create a book detailing your childhood along with your siblings in one book. Cover birthday parties, special events and occasions, even mundane things like your old room as a child, etc. I LOVE that idea...Im going scrapbook shopping tomorrow. YAY!

Parents have no use for expensive things Ive noticed...I give my mom expensive perfume and jewelry and never see it again...its always on display for everyone else to see though.

Re: special event!!!

Congratulations to your parents! and Bless you for being such a thoughtful daughter! Here are just a few ideas:

  • I think it would be best to have a dinner party at home (if you have ample space). You can send off your mother to avail a relaxing package at Bina Khan’s Salon (if your mother likes to be pampered. You can send off your father to a club if he is a member of one. Even if you want to keep the party as a surprise, do let them know that there will some kind of an event in the evening (like your in-laws visiting) so that they get dressed up.

Bina Khan: Spoiling Mummy with Sweets and Treats!

  • If he send off is not feasible, do consider the option of a five star hotel. I would suggest a pool side party at PC or an open deck party at The Floating Ship at Sea View. If not these then any smallish wedding venue that caters for birthday parties can be chosen. You can do it at the hall where your parents had their wedding reception.

  • A Hajj package would be an ideal gift. I know my parents would love one. Other than that you can make a whole album of memories from their childhood, wedding, kids (you and your brothers and sisters) till your wedding. Leave the last page for a big family photo of the said party that is being planned.

  • Decide a party colour. For 25th anniversary party decorations, silver is usually the dominant color. Try to add you dad and mom’s fav colour, too. Consider silvery candles, table glitter, streamers, balloons, ribbon and floral arrangements.

  • Try to set aside a place where people can put the 25th wdding anniversary gifts on display.

  • You can play their wedding video (if they had one) or you can also make up a family movie of some kind to show at the party. Try to use music that was played at the original wedding or was a hit at the time of their wedding.

  • Two or three memorable pictures can be blown up life-size and artfully arranged at the party venue:

  • Take the camcorder around and have people tape their wishes or a special remembrance of the couple. Alternatively, you can have a guestbook but I think guests find it harder to write.

  • A bracelet of silver coins or charms each printed with a milestone date in your parents’ lives can be a great gift for mom. Do remember leave a bit of space where she can put in more if upcoming memories.

It is all I can think of now.

Re: special event!!!

Just realized that my ideas would probably work only if you are having your party in Karachi. :)

Re: special event!!!

So, hinaz21, did you start planning for the party?

sum family friends had a surprise 25th anniversary party on a yacht which was decorated with flowers and candles. they had fireworks and a huge cake. it was super private and romantic. they also booked them a holiday for egypt, turkey and morocco!
