Special clothes for the kitchen !

So , I saw this lady working in the kitchen with her special clothes on . ( a Silk robe like shirt and a tight hat on with not a single hair in sight.

She said she always puts that dress on when cooking or in the kitchen , coz it helps with the hygiene , hair doesnt fall in the food and the smell of the desi khana doesnt get into the clothes.

Would you do something like this in your household? or are you ok with carrying out day to day tasks in your daily wear?

I used to wear whatever in the kitchen ... but i've recently started wearing an apron when i cook. I've noticed a huge difference in terms of clothes smelling & obvs with stains. I'm prob always gonna stick to wearing an apron now lol.

i change out if my pjs and wear home clothes, cook.. and then change.out of em once im done.. yes im one.if those khawateen that doll up before the husband comes home :khatti:

the home.xlothes get change every other day. i wear an apron in the kitchen… nothing on my head… never had hair in my food. i DO make sure i have no broken hair on my clothing though… that is a pet peeve of mine… even on others… seeing hair all over their clothes… eeeeeee pick em off folks!

Re: Special clothes for the kitchen !

Since my kitchen is my profession kitchen, I'll tell you something about the food safety and hygiene. My restaurant kitchen just got a surprise inspection from the food inspector today and he checked my appearance and hygiene level as well.

Hair net is a must. No hair should be in sight. Your arms should be waxed at all times. No jewellery is allowed in the kitchen, especially while cooking. Wedding or engagement bands are allowed, because food particles don't get stuck between the ring edges and bacteria doesn't grow.

Nails should be cut at all times. No long nails allowed. In a professional kitchen, male or female, you should wear full sleeve clothes. I obviously wear my chef jacket. It prevents any rouge hair from getting in to the food, plus it is your first line of defence in case there's a fire. Your body is covered, your skin won't burn directly or immediately.

Apron is a must, but if you're wearing a chef jacket, a full apron isn't necessary. Those half aprons are fine. Preferably an apron with a pocket, so you can keep a hand towel on you. To wipe clean surfaces, yourself etc. Clean as you go motto of us chefs.

While handling prepared food, gloves are a must. We cannot serve people cooked food, without wearing gloves on our hand. Once the food has been cooked and is ready to be served/plated, you should wear gloves for food hygiene and safety purposes.

Re: Special clothes for the kitchen !

In my kitchen I have always worn an aprin for washing up abd cooking, I simply can't wash up without my apron and gloves I am so used to it. Hair I keep tidied up, nails kept short. more often than not I wear my jogging bottoms and a t shirt when cooking or if I am going to change clothes cook in whatever I had on that day but never have I gone out in same clothes after having cooked, curry smells or smells of food on clothes is just wrong and not nice for others to whiffing your food smells.

I have a box of latex gloves for times when I might be doing a dawat and chopping lots of onions etc and when I Marinade meats I wear those disposables too, I hate my hands smelling afterwards.

I am not a chef or anything just a bit OCD about cleanliness.

Re: Special clothes for the kitchen !

No special clothes, don't wear an apron or gloves. But I make sure I have a shower/ get changed before I go out to do the school pickup. U can't smell curry while ur cooking but boy do you smell when u go Out, it's not pleasant.

Re: Special clothes for the kitchen !

I am so in and out of the kitchen at all times , I wear regular home clothes. I do. Hangs forgoing out because I wear shalwar kameez at home.

Re: Special clothes for the kitchen !

My hair is down to my behind, so my hair is tied up at all times.

When i start to cook, i shake my clothes off, just to be sure. If daughters come into kitchen to prep, cook etc, they have to have their hair tied up.

If myself at home, then i do cook in whatever. I never wear super, super nice clothes, like latest salwar kameez in cooking or a nice top that just might get haldi over it. I did it many years ago, wearing a beautiful new silk outfit without an apron , frying pakoras at a friends house and got oil splatters all over.. never knew the talcum powder trick at time, but still that hurt.

Since i wear abaya etc, i keep those and handbag away from the kitchen so smells do not get into them.

When heading out, I do a quick change, be it pants, t's whatever , throw on abaya/hijab and out the door. Obviously there are times when I cannot do that, but those times are very few.

If it is minus outside, i open some windows and doors to let
