harmon, cambridgeworks, creative, and now logitech z5xsomething series always impressed me..
budget will be limited.. 150>300 (logitech z is 400 plus tax roughly) (CDN)
recommendations of a particular brand is what i’m looking at..
soundcard can take “8 channel” sound system.. (:roman:) so what can i do? THX cert, dolbi ™ cert, 5.1, 6.1? what?
dont wanna rock the new house, but DEFINITELY wanna get CLEAARRRRRRRRRRRRREST sound possible..

It goes like this (from best to worst):
KLipsch > Harmon Karden > Altec Lansing > Logitech > Creative > *
From above I would choose Logitech. Their most systems seems to have more BOOM (bass) than other (if you compare the xact setup side by side). Most people like that but its personal preference. I have logitech 640 = 400RMS 5.1 system. Quite loud, never really went more than half the volume :)

u know Faizy, with this much budget you are better off buying Yamaha wooden base 5.1 system (really kick ass) but if you could increase your budget to $1,500 (which I know you can't) then check out BOSE 2.1 in Best Buy. I have 'em and I love 'em.

I personlly have Logitech...which is excellent but Altec Lancing is awesome as well, i used to have those...I would pick one of the these two.

I have Logitech Z3i
and, I cannot complain, I got it for free (only paid TAX) when I was in Canada last (100% mail-in rebate) from Best Buy Mississauga.
If I can get a surround sound in the same model I’d go for it, but even without surround it can shake the windows.
So my suggestion is go for Logitech.

I've been using the Cambridge Works surround system for about 3 yrs, don't remember the exact model. And when I'm playing any games (like Doom3) at night it scares the bejeebers out of me at times.
