The description of the Paradise promised to the God fearing; therein are rivers of water which never stales; and rivers of milk of which the taste does not change, and rivers of wine of which the drinking is delightful; and therivers of honey purified. And therein for them are every kind of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. Shall persons enjoying such comforts be equal to those who are to abide in the Fire and are given to drink boiling water so that it may cut their entrails into pieces?
fariha have you noticed the use of Laban for milk in Quran. I was also surprised, when one of my friend who works in Saudia told that they call dahi / lassi (laban) now.

I will ask to my Father ke kya Milk ko bhi laban keh saktey hain ?
exactly. I read Quran with tarjuma and tafseer in Ramadan since last 8-10 years and now most I can understand meaning of majority of the verses without going into translation. It takes 2 hours to go through 20-25 rukoo with translation enabling me to be attentive during Taraveh.
finally main ney pochwaya hai tu unhu ney kaha ke pehley zamaney main laban hi kehtey hun gey kisi ko is ka sahi terhan pata nahi hai…lekin laban sab abb dahi ko hi kehtey hain or milk ke liye word haleeb hi use huta hai
is ka pochwaya hai…Tun basically likhney main use huta hai Dictionary main lekin bolney main use nahi kertey hamesha without tun phertey hain
When I first started learning Arabic, using the Madinah Books, I learned that milk was laban. Then, browsing through the Hans Wehr dictionary I came across haleeb. At that point I didn’t know what the difference was, if any. Well most of the time we have been overseas we have used haleeb. The other week I got a “sour” lesson that proved to me, the difference between haleeb and laban.
We were at the store and I was at the milk aisle. We had started drinking more milk lately so I was loading up on cartons. The milk is sold in “tetra pak” cartons, box like cartons which do not need to be refrigerated until they are opened. So I bought about four cartons.
Happily that same day, I found Keebler M & M cookies which I hadn’t seen in a while. So we go home eat lunch, and prepare to have cookies and cold milk. My son served me a plate of cookies and brought a nice cold glass of milk. I pick up the milk expecting cold and creaminess (so I took a big sip) and to my dismay what I tasted was a thick, clumpy sour taste..Uggggh! I looked at the carton,—–laban. It was basically like the buttermilk in the United States. So now without a doubt I know, haleeb is the milk you want to buy for cereal and cookies…..
Bus ji Allah ne tofeeq di to aahista aahista hogaya. I was going through Hifz and memorized 10 paras, but due to religious bigotry / strictness. They didn’t allow to read translation. Being DeoBandi, they confisctaed my Qasasul Quran (writeen by Barelvi), even they were alergic of Naat cassettes. Then due to tough school schedules, I had to leave hifz in between. My Dada / Dadi both were very angry. My molvi then have said on Masjid’s gate ’ tum dozakhi ho’. Iss attitude ki waja se maine namaz padhna bhi choR dia tha kuch arse. Then when I came to Karachi, I started this and this changed my life. It increased my knowledge of language and thought behind basic teachings of Islam, which I may not have accomplished if I continued with Hifz under that environment.
