Maybe the only noticeable difference between a “Spanish omelette” and um my regular lazy omelettes, is that i don’t add the eggs over a strip of sauteed veggies… i dunno. Everyone has a unique way of making omelettes.
One thing i wanna know - how do you get the omelette to come out in that perfect triangular shape? Is that humanly possible? Please, would someone show me if they have done it? :halo: Just curious if it’s possible.
Ingredients for 2 servings:
1/2 green pepper
1/2 sweet red pepper
1/2 c (125 ml) peeled, diced tomatoes
1/2 onion
1 clove garlic
2 tbsp. olive oil
4 eggs, beaten
Salt, pepper and oregano
Preparation
Slice all the vegetables into strips; sauté the vegetables (except the tomatoes) in hot oil for a few minutes; add the tomatoes and continue to cook for 1 minute; add the beaten eggs and the seasonings; cook the omelette over medium heat for a few minutes and slide onto a serving platter.
while the omelette is cooking in the frying pan, take your cooking spoon, must be one of those flat cooking spoons with a flat straight end at the bottom, divide the omelette into 4 quarter circles before flipping it. and then flip each portion individually. it not only cooks better that way it also comes out in 4 quarter circles :D
argh i wrote out a response and it got deleted :~(
yaar sorry, but do you mean that each quarter is ultimately flipped upon itself, in the end forming that triangular shape? Wouldn’t the stability of the quarters (and the shape of the triangle) depend upon the point at which you flip it - it’s gotta be at just the right time so that it’s not too soggy nor too liquidy. i reckon it will be a minute or so before you remove the omelette from the pan ?
It sounds easy to do in writing, i’ll give it a try… Insha’Allah. Thanks yaar
i think some of us are born naturally as great cooks, while the rest of us (aka me) can only dream about having that sughaaR touch :o Mujhe sai yeh sab cooking wooking nahin hota
Nadia, the true Spanish omelet is very thick (almost as thick as a pizza crust) and is cooked in a (circle) pan. Afterwards you can cut it in any shape you like.
Besides, at the local supermarket you can find omelet makers. They are not to be put in an oven but in a microwave. I haven't used one myself but have heard generally good reviews about them from friends.
Shahreen, yeah it definitely does. But my omelettes never ever come out that thick... i dunno what i'm doing wrong. Maybe i use a frying pan that's too large ?
AhmadJee, Omelette makers... i have never seen them, but i'll keep an eye out for them.
This is why i think i'll just stick to my usual milk 'n cereal...less hassle. :o
i think Shahreen is right abt the pic, theyve cut the omelette into wedges
yes nadia practise two three times and you’ll know when to cut the omelette and flip it i started doing this coz i could never do the whole circular omelette (my mom can though) so cutting into quarters meant the end omelettes would still not be broken and look decent
btw, dont feel bad yaar, im the queen of phoohar pun, if u dont believe me ask my mom

nadz, so lets say u put the mix in the pan, now like 5 seconds after putting the mix in, remove the veggies from the -|- area of the liquid so the veggies dont interfere when u r dividing the circle...when the bottom of th omlet is cooked and the above part is a bit more steady ...just cut it across north south and east west..
and then carefully separate all four pieces away from the center so u can have some space to flip em
If you cook it over a low flame for a few mins and then put it under the grill it will cook on top without flipping. Add cheese on the top too if you want!
