Dear Guppies,
I was planning to going to Madrid for 4 days in July. I have even booked my flights.
I have just learnt that I may need a visa!? I am on a 2 year Tier 2 visa in the UK with expires in June 2012.
I thought I could go anywhere in the European union if I had a UK visa? Could someone please help me as I have already spent about 100£ on flight tickets etc. Really want to go and see Europe before my time in UK is up!

Airlines usually advise passengers if they require a visa or NOT...my best advice to you would be to call the airline FIRST and inquire about it or else call the Embassy/Consulate of Spain in the UK. they will tell you exactly what kinda documentation you need in order to travel to Spain.

I am flying with easyjet, who are a cheap local airline so I could not trust their advice. I will call the Spanish embassy tomorrow but I was hoping to hear from fellow pakistanis in the UK who have travelled to Spain?

it's NOT about an airline being cheap or not...it's about their legal responsibility!...they are legally required to advise passengers of any immigration documentations that they might need to enter the country of their destination. it's also in their own interest...how?...because, when they transport a passenger to another country and if he/she is found INADMISSIBLE, it will be the airline's legal responsibility to transport the passenger back to the country where the flight originated...this means a NET LOSS to the airline.

pakistani's are required to get all visa's from pakistan before travel...if your lucky and the person at the visa counter is friendly you might be able to get a visa from england to spain...but you will have to go to the spanish embassy for that..

Budjet airlines dont ask if you have visa especially if you book online. I think you needed to arrange your spain visa before you booked your tickets. As a last resort you could change dates of travel as you will not get refund from easyjet. Btw how were you planning on travelling in July if your UK visa expires in June??

Just cuz u have a visa for the UK, it doesnt mean u can travel to a schengen country..u need a schengen visa for that... Uk is not a schengen country thus the visa requirement.

Well my uk visa expires in June 2012. And I have done my research and found that I need to apply in person to Spain consulate in UK. Just need to take my tickets, accomodation details and job contract here in UK. Hope they give me as I have spent more than £300 already! :-(
