When we watch films or documentaries about space…why is the vessel always travelling horizontally?
Why never vertically?

Re: Space!
wat do you mean by vessel???
Re: Space!
Because it's easier to manoeuvre a horizontal spaceship through space debris and avoid a collision rather than a vertical one...Duh!

Interesting thought... I guess because that might force us to travel outside our paradigm... Or maybe we do travel vertically.. its just that we dont see it and because we are so used to seeing horizontally traveling objects, we tend to believe that is the case with this as well..
Remember.. we may never know everything about our Universe... simply because we are a part of it...
Re: Space!
HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL travel in space! you are forgetting one point here Horizontal or vertical to what?
does it really exist if no gravitational gradient is present.. ? ![]()

films are made for u to see n u tend have better picture if things travel horizontally in front of u.
point mentioned by Kamran-khan is also coherent.
p.s. u r forgetting real things> rockets :D
Re: Space!
DO you remember the series finale of Star Trek Next Generation? During the conclusion three "Enterprise" vessels from three timelines entered the same space and time at the scene of the anomaly.
When the third "Enterprise" entered the scene. it was flying vertically (nose up) from viewers perspective, while two other "Enterprise" vessels were sitting horizontally
Most of the times, the movies are filmed from viewers perspective, so they show the vessels flying horizontally as it makes sense to the viewers
Don’t want to sound like a Star Trek geek, but in the STAR TREK world, “Federation” has UP/DOWN coordinates already defined in 3D space, so when two ships approach each other, even though they are horizontal, they are also flying right side up, rather then one flying belly up and one right side up

Re: Space!
The funniest thing...for geeks and physics fans....in the old star trek series when there was conflict between 2 space ships you'd see the fight then they'd show a space ship at an angle, indicating that it was hurt...well there is NO up or down or sideways in space so it was just the most ridiculous thing - in a physics sense.
Re: Space!
^^ How about when an space ship exploded, there is always this large explosion sound, that could be heard. A sound in space? That's funny

hahahaah u know what I NEVER really thought about it but now that u mention it is a little dodgy. although it can mean that there is a problem with their engines and so it cant maintain its posture.

I am "space ka alam channa". zara sir uthaya aur sab kuch dekh liyaa. Why to fly planes to go up there
